This DVD5 ISO image file contains the security updates for Windows released on Windows Update on September 11th, 2007. The image does not contain security updates for other Microsoft products. This DVD5 ISO image is intended for administrators that need to download multiple individual language versions of each security update and that do not use an automated solution such as Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). You can use this ISO image to download multiple updates in all languages at the same time.

is this like an alternative to autopatcher?

Sounds interesting..
#3 J400uk on 12 Sep 2007 - 12:45
its similar to autopatcher

That's exactly what Autopatcher was doing.
#4.1 +mrbester on 12 Sep 2007 - 13:42
No, this is all the patches in all languages. Autopatcher split those out to the relevant languages that were supported so feasibly, the September update would have come in at around 20MB. Autopatcher also chained the installations for you. Now you have to write your own script or potentially have to reboot after every install.

It comes on a DVD5 ISO because they always do: sometimes there's enough patches to go over the CD limit. Even though DVD-Rs are dirt cheap there's no reason not to burn this to CD.

A waste of a DVD5 with only ~ 400 MB used?

Use a DVD-RW. Not a problem.

LOL @ ppl complaining that they are wasting a DVD. It's like 5¢ more than a CD.

That's true, but I still can't stand burning a DVD if most of it's not even being used. I know it's silly but it just bugs me.

cant you just mount it?

So this is why MS decided to ban AutoPatcher, they wanted their own one to have all the light.
#9.1 PureLegend on 12 Sep 2007 - 17:01
Yes...shame how they like to do everything their own way :/
#9.2 TRC on 12 Sep 2007 - 22:17
That doesn't make sense, they aren't making money on this and they've been releasing these long before Autopatcher came along. They just don't want to be responsible for third parties distributing their patches where who know what could go wrong. In fact this is absolutely nothing like Autopatcher.

You know they have been doing this for a while, right?
#10 Powerless on 12 Sep 2007 - 17:38
They've done this for a bit.

Anybody ever bothered trying to figure out the process of slipstreaming those ISOs with an XP SP2 CD?

Once this is done, it should be pretty easy to automate and add the new ones as they come out...

Nlite is probably the easiest way.

ya I wouldn't use it to slipstream, its all scattered, very few english and most are for 2003 and 2000 a few vista and a few xp updates

I really don't understand why they are calling it a DVD5 ISO when it clearly fits on a CD.
#14.1 +mrbester on 13 Sep 2007 - 12:01
It's probably an automated process that creates a ISO, not bothering to check if it could fit on a CD
