The latest version of web browser Firefox will make changes to the way people search for information online, says its developer.
Mozilla has told the BBC's World Service that the new browser has been designed around the importance of search to users. Firefox 3, currently going through its third stage of beta testing, will offer a combined search and bookmark tool via the url bar.
It will also allow offline working.
Chairman of the Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker told BBC World Service's Digital Planet programme: "It's clear that when people are looking for information on the web, search is the number one activity," she said. "We've devised ways to bring that power into areas that are closer to your individual life."

Thank god you posted! I'll sleep easy tonight.
1. All browsers have had some sort of type-matching in the URL bar for a long time, but that's not what this is.
2. And, it's been enabled in the past 2 Firefox3 betas... (and Places landed in the trunk about a year ago)
So it sounds like Opera is at least a beta behind.

AHAHAH...
1. 1st check your sources... All browsers have some sort of type-matching in the URL bar, BUT opera was first. I'm not saying it's better or worse, but give them credit.
2. He said it was in the latest beta, he didn't mention the others. In fact you may like to see this:

how about that?? 4th september 2007. Again, give credit to who deserve it.
Firefox is a great browser, but opera is lots more innovative, always full of great new ideas, and the proof is that others copy them, like this one, like the start with last session, like the closed tabs trash bin, etc...

This is exactly what I meant yes, thanks for clearing it up. (I was merely asking a question, not flaming/trolling in any way).
They're talking about the "Awesomebar".
No, it's not powered by Google, (lulz) it's powered by mysql and it's own algorithm.
my bad.
It's something that I've started taking for granted because it's so easy to press "Ctrl + L" then type a word that has something to do with what I'm looking for.
It finds what I want really quickly and almost always without having to refine my search.

Oh well.
Who'd have thought it eh? When people are looking for information, the first thing they do is search for it. He later went on to reveal that people tend to sleep more when they are tired. Oh yes, you heard it here first.
I spy, with my cynical eye, something beginning with BS. Closer to my individual life? Who dreams these things up? I want to go and work there too!
What a breakthrough feature. Never heard of "Work offline" before....
