Live@edu is the ultimate suite of applications, mobile, desktop and web-based, to help students collaborate on campus, and create a community that lasts a lifetime. The Microsoft Live@edu program provides institutions of higher education and K-12 with a set of free hosted and co-branded collaboration and communication services for students, alumni, and applicants, leading with an offer of Windows Live™ Hotmail®, a hosted e-mail service, and Office Live Workspace, an online space to collaborate on Microsoft Office documents. Although Microsoft hosts the e-mail, the institution maintains control: you continue to create, delete, and store institution e-mail addresses for your constituents, as you do today. The website uses SilverLight.

We are in the process of using this at work. They actually have a better program called Exchange Labs @Edu that is hosted Exchange instead of just Hotmail.

Yeah my university offers us all three services: Live@Edu, ExchangeLabs@Edu, and Google Apps. You can use all three if you want for maximum storage. Kinda nice.
