Microsoft is readying a new video website. Microsoft Videos Beta, will launch in April with United States content at first. In the coming months they will be adding videos from Microsoft subsidiaries around the world.
"You will be able to scan our Quick Picks for the latest videos, enter a search, or choose a category from our Video Guide," it says on the website ... "Then tell us what you think by rating what you've watched. If you like what you see, you can share it with a friend or colleague, or link to it in your blog using one of our community features."

Anyway...something webify is happening all over Microsoft..and also strong foundation of client softwares are rocking (using Windows 2008 & Office 07 :-D, its awesome)
Do anyone know whether it is only for Tech related videos? or common videos?
What's the news here, besides not using Flash so many will have to download a new plugin? Are the videos of unusually high quality? Who makes the picks? What's the purpose, the advantages compared to the competition? Is it to be a social site like YouTube where anyone can upload videos?
I guess this site is just a different interface for those videos?
People have asked me to setup flash for them because they are too scared to click Next on some wizard. So yeah, the browser really needs another resource hogging plugin loaded and more attack vectors, plus more update downloads is all we need.
also good thing that Flash is like a juggernaut compared to silverlight.

Bah you know they'll just push it through windows updates anyway. And then they'll require it for windowsupdates.microsoft.com

Easy to install? Since when? Maybe you mean easy to install..but does it work once 'installed'? I think not. No matter how many times I installed, uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight still doesn't recognize itself as having been installed. I'm using Vista 32 bit, SP1. Firefox 3 beta 4 and IE7..neither recognize Silverlight installation.
I just hope it doesnt get as bad as Youtube with silly users uploading misleading videos. If i want to see a dancing dog dont give me some loser trying to sing his favorite final fantasy song. And whats up with user reviews, do we really need the music while you open a box (after a minute of talking about how 'cool' to box looks, its a friggin box move on).

Same reason they have PlaysForSure and Zune Marketplace! Duh!
