The bad news just doesn't seem to end for Yahoo. As the Internet portal prepares to fend off a proxy fight by billionaire investor Carl Icahn, new research from comScore concludes that for the first time, Google has overtaken Yahoo as the most-visited Web site in the U.S. Google reached the pinnacle of the Top 50 U.S. Properties in April, with an audience of 141 million visitors, according to data from comScore's monthly analysis. Gmail is actually pretty damn good. Bu then again, I have it routed to Mail on OS X, so i don't use the Gmail interface much. Some of my family do, however, and they seem to like it quite a bit.
Every time one of these articles comes out about Yahoo's problems, you ought to take a look at Microsoft's online problems. Live and MSN are both miserable failures. If it wasn't for MS's other cash cows, they would have been shut down already. They are bleeding $$$. While Yahoo is either beating or close behind Google, Live is a distant third, more on par with AOHELL.
Yahoo's biggest problem is that some of its services are slow and clunky. But the Yahoo home page has gotten a major AJAX-y facelift lately and is almost as good as using something like Netvibes. I don't know why people would prefer Google over that, probably because its trendy right now? I still have my half dozen Yahoo accounts and have no intention of going to Google or Live so they can spy on my illegal activities.
Thanks.
