At the HTC Touch Diamond launch in South Africa, I had the opportunity to have a little chat with Kevin Chen, General Manager of HTC for MEA and CIS. Besides having an in-depth explanation on the innovations that the Touch Diamond brings, Chen told me that HTC is planning to unveil a device with Google Android Operating System by Q4 of this year, and a Windows Mobile 7 by Q1 of next year, atleast that’s what’s on the planned release schedule from HTC.

On the Microsoft side, HTC doesn’t seem to sure when the phone will be announced, but only when it should be announced, in other words, they aren’t sure of what’s happening with the Windows Mobile 7 product but they are hoping it gets to the market early next year. AWg has already leaked a roadmap which states that a Windows Mobile 7 device should be announced on their side by the end of this year.

They have enough time to copy iPhone's interface.

>>They have enough time to copy iPhone's interface

There are tons of iPhone UI look alikes for Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1...

Of course it took the first one to show up about 1/2 a day, and almost a couple of hours of programming to mimic the iPhone, from the gestures to every facet of the UI. (Windows Mobile is a platform people can easily write applications for.)

Now if we can just get Apple to copy voice dialing like even the free phones at Walmart have had since 2004... That would be freaking amazying to touch your bluetooth button and say Dial 555-1212 or Dial Grandma and have a freaking iPhone do something this advanced...

iPhone = Martketing
iPhone DOES NOT EQUAL technology or features

Sorry you were suckered like so many...

Anthony .. whilst I agree with you on your point I still have to mention that you are wrong about one thing.

People were not suckered. Some really don't need technology .. some just need to be like the rest. Go with the trend etc. He bought a tamagochi .. I bought one.

Some are in it for the nice looks .. for the nice UI.

I personally couldnt live without SMS reports for example. (I dont know if V2 has reports now or not .. but it would be sad if it still didnt)

The iPhone is a very nice looking phone. The interface works very well too. Sadly it lacks features. The 3G version is at least a step in the right direction. Im about to go for a HTC Touch Pro when it comes out. I normally don't like to move away from Nokia but my company is forcing me to.

look i normally for a strong feature set and good specs rather then glitzy marketing

but even i have to admit, the iphone has worked wonders for the mobile market

windows mobile 6/6.1 is terrible for everyday use unless you use a stylus all the time... the dev team should have seen this coming where touch should have been much more tightly integrated than it really has been *cue reminders about wm7 doing all this and more* - if you want to see how easy it could have been, google pointui - i use that on my WM phone and it's AMAZING... i can't beleive MS would talk crap about how hard it is to make something like that when a small group of people could make this... imagine what MS could have done if they pulled their fingers out of their asses

instead of the zune they should have concentrated on a phone/music player hybrid to cover the markets' future inevitable convergence

i don't care what people say, the iphone is brilliant for 2 reasons:

1) it brings touch to the masses and actually FORCES competing phone manufacturers to get off their lazy arses and push NEW features out intead of recycling the same garbage (did anyone know my motorola E1000 is FOUR years old and had STEREO speakers, QVGA res AND GPS - yeh that's right, a FOUR YEAR OLD phone - now think of how much moeny they've creamed off us by selling phones with no real new features in the meantime)

2) it makes things easy... wm isn't easy to use (i know, business first, consumers second, yada yada) - HTC has tried to customise windows mobile to make it more easy and have done wonders... hopefully android will be a hit and push MS to actually INNOVATE and INSPIRE

yeh that's right, coming from someone with a WM phone too! i'm not a fanboy for any company, i just go with whatever's best at the time (as it should be) - and while apple talks a lot, at least they deliver and push things in the right direction

i've got big expectations about WM7

Lets just hope we can update our Touches and Xperias with WM7 when it comes out ; )

Can iPhone record video yet?? My htc touch can and was much more affordable and upgradeable then my coworkers iPhones.
