Panasonic Corporation of North America has shown off two new Blu-ray players, the DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55, at this year's CEDIA Convention. While both devices offer improvements in video and audio with enhancements such as "True-to-Life Colors" and HD Audio Decoders (Dolby® TrueHD, Dolby® Digital Plus and DTSTM-HD Master Audio Essential), one of the most anticipated features, for the general consumer, has to be the included BD-Live support.

With a BD-Live capable player and a Blu-ray movie which also supports the feature, viewers can use their Blu-ray player to connect to the internet to download additional subtitles, images related to the movie, and other digital content. In addition to such bonus features, users will also be able to take part in interactive games, including multiplayer games, which are linked to bonus content related to the movie.

also supports the feature, viewers can use their Blu-rau player to connect to the internet to download additional subtitles

So when are these Blu-rau players coming out? lol

I like the idea of being able to download updates for movies and such, but aren't these players turning into a computer, rather then just a player?

My mistake on the typo. I'm so used to spell checker marking Blu-ray as incorrect (since I never added it to the dictionary), that I just over looked it.

everything is a computer these days... next thing they will allow you to download firmware for your toaster when a new range of bread comes out

I'm thinking they'll make a talking AI toaster that constantly asks you if you would like toast. Because it offers toast. Hot, delicious toast.

Why not just go for the $2000 Sony player? It's a real steal at that price.

How about some source links, manufacturer links or pictures?

The players aren't for sale yet and, thus, aren't available on Panasonic's website for linking.

Anyway, I'm not expecting "low cost" Blu-Ray player from Panasonic.

Best deal is still the PS3.

Hang on, I thought Blu-Ray and the now obselete HD-DVD already had true to life colours, being high definition formats?

They probably added it as an enhancement for marketing reasons.

So they're adding support for something that was unfortunately standard on HDDVD, the downloading of extra content etc (Transformers for example). They will probably charge an arm and a leg for it too

Nothing like making a deadly plague look like a nice tall glass of iced tea!

So don't buy a BDlive player, then. BDlive disks will still play the BluRay content, you know.

gee... with all these changes in the spec I think I'll jus wait until they stop bringing out new "profiles" and someone brings out a mother of all blu-ray which can play them all!!
my money's on LG.

There are no additional profiles. 1.1 added PiP (BonusView) and 2.0 is online. Even if you have a 1.0 BD player it will still play all the movies and most of the extras.

LG's are incredibly buggy machines.

PS3s are all BD Live capable BTW.
