TiVo, the pioneer of digital recording service and smart-guide searching now becomes a pioneer in the advertising market by announcinig on Monday a new free service to all subscribers with an active TiVo account: ordering Domino's pizza through your TV.

How does this work? Basically when a Domino's ad runs, the user will be given the "I want it" option which will then prompt you to manually enter a delivery address; or for the more technologically endued, you can setup a Dominos.com account and link it to your TiVo box. Sadly, TiVo said that you will still have to pay cash at the door.

"Joining forces with Domino's Pizza creates an effective marketing and commerce tool for Domino's while enhancing and further distinguishing TiVo as the ultimate way to watch TV with a closed-loop advertising experience," said Karen Bressner, senior vice president of advertising sales for TiVo.

That's right Karen, who needs a larger HD content selection, more flexible recording devices or even more affordable prices - people want to order pizza, and we want to do it now.

"This is the first time in history that the 'on-demand' generation will be able to fully experience couch commerce by ordering pizza directly through their television set," said Rob Weisberg, Domino's vice president of marketing. "You'll see a television ad for Domino's, and you'll click, 'I want it' through your remote. In about 30 minutes, your pizza will show up at your door."

This is not a new, nor revolutionary, use of TiVo, since you could already order Fandango tickets through your TV and have them waiting for you at the cinema. Here's a suggestion for you TiVo: call up QvC or any other infomercial shopping service and add automatic credit card payments, it is time that somebody fully tapped into the impulse-buying couch-potato market.

as with any order, you see confirmation before order is placed. And, of course, you have an option to change the address.

For an extra $5 they'll bring the pizza in, sit on the couch, and put it in your mouth for you.

Lazy but cool.

Great, this is just what Americans need. An easier way to get fatter.

HAHA! I laughed at that!
#5 JamesWeb on 19 Nov 2008 - 17:38
I'm pretty sure I could do this on Sky like 10 years ago...

A nice feature. The world is getting bigger due to conveniences. I would be lying if I said I haven't ordered a pizza online before.

Wow... is it 1998 already?

Pffff... Pizza73 and PizzaPizza have been doing online Pizza orders for years here in Canada. Sure, it's through the internet (on a pc) and not the internet (on a TiVo) but I think this whole pizza-over-the-internet thing is just a fad anyways.

Right so you rather not get online coupons/discounts/promotions?

It takes more effort to order a pizza online than to call... seriously. We did it for the first time only a week ago and we need to create a user name and password... then wait to get a confrimation e-mail... then we had to navigate the menu and click what we wanted... then wait forever for the checkout screen.

It took seriously 10 minutes to order when a simple call takes only maybe a minute.

i did it for the first time this weak too but my impression was different:
sure it took some time to register, but from now on it will be a lot faster as you don't have to wait for them to answer, they can't take your order wrong (as it is written on their screen) and you don't have to hear their stupid marketing ads (you can buy XYZ for only 9.95$!!!)

and as a bonus, at least here in Israel you get 5% discount in Domino's Pizza website

I was actually thinking of starting a delivery company that deals with fast food that doesn't have delivery, ie: McDonalds, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts. Your comment makes me want to revisit that idea... hehe

Cause Americans aren't fat enough....
#13 jwjw1 on 19 Nov 2008 - 22:34
no wonder people are getting obese...too damn lazy to get up out of the chair and walk to a phone.
#14 Baked on 19 Nov 2008 - 23:09
Hmm TiVo = $699 in Australia and its not selling well from what I've heard.

Waste of time PVR's can do nearly everything tivo can and at half the price.

Its no wonder the USA has the most obese population in the world.
#15 morficus on 19 Nov 2008 - 23:50
or maybe it's not the product that's making Americans fat... but the fat Americans that make this product possible
#16 Al-Mann on 20 Nov 2008 - 08:11
I love my TiVo, both of them! It's not being able to order pizza on TV that's making us fat... It's the food that's making us fat, that and not enough physical activities.

I'm sure that Sky TV in the UK had been doing this years ago

... tivo is also in negotiation with ikea to offer a range of standard and premium couch selection via tivo, in anticipation of more and more couch potatoes (yes, speel with "e"s) over-stresssing their couches.

the premium couch comes with built-in potty (up to 3 per couch). accessories include spray guns (either on the couch or in the potty) for convenient hygiene up-keeping. toilet papers not included ...

I've never been to an ikea but they are building the first ever in my state near me, what fun that'll be
