The IE8 beta 2 support page has been updated again and the support for IE8 pre-released versions has now been bumped to until March 31st, 2009. This could indicate that the final product may be released during April.

Dean Hachamovitch, General Manager, Internet Explorer had officially announced earlier that there will be one more public update of IE8 in the first quarter of 2009, followed up by the final release.

Currently, the IE8 Beta testers can download the latest partner build and the rest can download the Beta 2 which is available to public.

The current IE build version the beta testers can download is 8.0.6001.18344 and the one available in the leaked Windows 7 Beta 1 is 8.0.7000.0. The current IE8 Beta bits, including the partner build is not supported in Windows 7 beta 1.

Windows 7 is also rumoured to be released as early as 2009. Can this be a reason for IE8 getting delayed so that it can coincide with the Windows 7 release?

So that basically means it's going to go final around the time that Windows 7 has been predicted to go final.

If Windows 7 rumours are correct, then it should be

i dont think the delay his anything to do with W7

the might just went more time to bugfixes , they will release it when it is ready , and surely it should be ready before windows 7 hit RTM

MS has already stated that IE8 will be a core part of Win7, it would make sense to have the final IE8 release close to Win7 RTM.

Much as I'd love to see WM7 that soon, I don't see it happening.

I agree on the other two, though.

Oh and the time they will release them ..... around July/August 2009 or even earlier.

Do you know what I've never understood, why MS cares about Internet Explorer. I mean, yeah, once upon a time, they charged people for it by bundling it with "Plus!", but they ship it free now, so it actually costs them money having to deal with all the security holes and so on.

Now don't get me wrong, I am a big supporter of Web Standards, and (for whatever its worth) applaud Microsoft for pushing towards a standards compliant browser, but I don't see why Microsoft doesn't just licence Firefox, Opera, etc to bundle with Windows and donate to the cause, or alternatively, make IE open-source. It would save them a lot of work, and save them a lot of money.

It's so easy that I don't know why you haven't understood this yourself.
Do you suggest selling all Windows users' browsing habits to Google?
Can you imagine Microsoft begging Mozilla for 7-8 yesrs to fix some bug?
Do you want some bug in new Gecko version to kill Windows Help, Mail, Media Player, Active Desktop, SQL Server Installer...? shall I continue?
What would Microsoft say to its users when Mozilla sais "Yes there is a hole which lets anyone steal some local files. But we are not going to fix it because that files are not very important."

I really understand why Microsoft doen't want any 3rd-party apps in default Windows installation.

Man, I sure hope this thing winds better than IE7? As far as the one beta version I tried of it, it surely wasn't any better. In fact, MUCH worse.

Don't plan on upgrading to Windows 7 any time soon after it's release and definitely CAN NOT stand that POS Vista, so it'll be XP Pro and IE6 (although Seamonkey is my main browser) for some time to come yet.

IE6

No. Just... no. Leave now, before someone manages to find their pitchfork...

Seems like they're artificially delaying it to make it closer to Windows 7 RTM. Beta 2 arrived at August end. Aren't 4-6 months enuf for bug fixing? I'm happy about the CSS2.1 improvements but this again makes IE releases 2+ years apart which is not enough to get IE up to the mark.
