According to a report by the British Video Association show that Blu-ray sales were very strong this Holiday season. The surge in sales of Blu-ray discs was driven by a strong performance throughout the year, credit crunch notwithstanding. Blu-ray disc sales hit a new high in the run-up to Christmas; 1.5 million discs were sold in December alone, up almost 400% against the same period in 2007. In total the format has sold 3.7 million units in 2008, demonstrating the public's enthusiasm for high quality picture and sound in the home.

Shame the discs are so damn expensive. I looked at getting the missus some films, but ended up going back to the DVD isle.

They are only expensive in stores. If you shop online, you can expect to pay £4-5 pay more for the Blu-ray edition on chart movies.

Can you give me some links? Play.com are normally cheap but even BD's in their Sale section are on average £10.

Just get a netflix account. That's what I have. They send me 3 blu-ray movies at once. Its great. Because who ever watches most movies more than once anyway.

You're expecting a Blu-Ray Disc to be less than a tenner? Thats expecting alot. It's a new (ish) format. Don't expect sub-£10 discs until it's been out long enough to have a "bargain bin".

Surely the fact that he quoted the price in pounds and also mentioned a British website should tel you that Netflix isn't available where we live

I wasn't expecting less than a tenner. But when ynnoj said you could I thought I would ask where. As expected he didn't reply...

£10 is cheap for BD's. Majority of films though are alot more.

Top titles like Wall•E, The Chronicles of Narnia and Sleeping Beauty can be had for $20 if you wait for sales.

Titles are dropping in price quite rapidly. A few months ago It was hard to find a title under £20. Now you can pick titles up for £15, even disney disks have dropped.
