Kelly Poe, a big fan of Windows 7 has started a campaign to release Windows 7 Now! The campaign is called - Release Windows 7 Now - and allows users to cast their vote towards the release.
Based on the positive reviews from many people like Leo Laporte (twit.tv, TWIT Podcast) and Paul Thurrott (www.winsupersite.com, Windows Weekly podcast), Poe thinks that Windows 7 is good enough for a release already and requests Microsoft let the beautiful little birdy fly!
Microsoft has already confirmed today that there is no more beta and published RC details, but still it is not sure what versions of Windows 7 Microsoft has planned to release. I think we would get a better picture once RC gets released.
So, what do you think? Are using Windows 7 beta? Do you think is it almost ready for a release?

Semantics. It is what they call it. I've had plenty of "released version" software that should have been in the beta, and even alpha stage.
Those anything like bollocks?
Seriously, I'm having very few issues with 5 installations of 7 (3 physical, 2 VMs) One of mine is an old P-III w/512MB of RAM and working a charm. Vista wouldn't even install on it.
You want to wait another 6 or so years when it gets changed many times over. That is what lead the ruin of Vista. Much of what was pomised was removed.
What are you talking about? Windows 7 is still on schedule for a release this year.
"I think, no wait I demand that Microsoft write Windows 7 as Windows VII, everybody look at me!
Seriously, Win7 is not ready in my experience.
@TRC
You have to admit, Windows IX would look pretty damn awesome and you know they're totally going to do it too.
But this is easily the best beta I've seen from Microsoft.
Don't get me wrong I would love to have it as early as I as can, but I am willing to wait, as I am using the Beta and its fan-bloody-tastic compared to the experience I had with Vista and is better than Xp as well.
But Paul Thurrot thinks this guy is a joke and so do I.
Now we're going to have another rushed OS.
I think 99% of people are more than happy to wait.
I'm perfectly fine on XP and look forward to the Windows 7 release when it's ready.
of course it is.. it's also the FIRST since vista.. so one would suspect everyone would think its the finest so far since vista.... geez
Especially -
Proper support for USB memory drives with multiple partitions.
UAC settings changes should ALWAYS spawn a UAC prompt (prevent recent exploit)
I really llike the win7 beta but I'm not risking wasting time having to redo anything for my degree by making it my default OS atm.
move the taskbar to the top of the screen, then hover up high on the chevron / down arrow to pop up the former "systray" icons... bet you get the "Show Hidden Icons" tool-tip popping in and out. Basically, if the mouse pointer is closer to the top of the screen than the height of the tool-tip, the tool-tip shows and hides ad-infinitum until you move the pointer away.
move the taskbar left or right and the tool-tip pops out fine, just when the bar is up top do you get this issue.

That's not a bug. That's an undocumented feature. ;-)
lmao
upgrading from Vista (with at least this version of the beta), the current Zune software will not recognize a previously connected Zune device unless the Zune software is uninstalled, then reinstalled.

It's these kind of people that will pump it up in their vocal medium and then bash it into oblivion the moment it fails them after release.
The reason why Vista received so much bad press was because towards the end there was commercial pressure to get a new OS out which lead to features being dropped and arguably a few questionable decisions being made.
As a Vista user and a 7 tester I would rather Microsoft do it right, do it correctly and release into a wave of positively publicity rather than into a negative one which has irrevocably tarnished Vista's release.
From my own personal testing experience, yes, sure 7 is fairly solid - but it isn't release ready. There are a sizable number of issues in it that I am still experiencing across multiple hardware configurations, particularly in Media Centre and based upon my experiences in that regard I find the idea of asking for them to RTM it in a test phase absolutely laughable.
He should simply install the Beta and wait until it's done (which will aready be this summer, by the looks of it).
