Windows 7 Beta has been getting good reviews since its release and many users who use the beta say this is going to be one of the finest releases so far from Microsoft after the dreadful Vista start. Agreeing we all like Windows 7, how soon you want Windows 7 to be shipped?

Kelly Poe, a big fan of Windows 7 has started a campaign to release Windows 7 Now! The campaign is called - Release Windows 7 Now - and allows users to cast their vote towards the release.

Based on the positive reviews from many people like Leo Laporte (twit.tv, TWIT Podcast) and Paul Thurrott (www.winsupersite.com, Windows Weekly podcast), Poe thinks that Windows 7 is good enough for a release already and requests Microsoft let the beautiful little birdy fly!

Microsoft has already confirmed today that there is no more beta and published RC details, but still it is not sure what versions of Windows 7 Microsoft has planned to release. I think we would get a better picture once RC gets released.

So, what do you think? Are using Windows 7 beta? Do you think is it almost ready for a release?

In the meantime, dont forget to read our Windows 7 Overviews:
And don't forget to cast your vote ;)

This is stupid. The beta isn't an RC.

I agree. It's ballocks. I'm happy to wait. It can get better and it will. After all, I've seen it bluescreen a few times.

Semantics. It is what they call it. I've had plenty of "released version" software that should have been in the beta, and even alpha stage.

Those anything like bollocks?
Seriously, I'm having very few issues with 5 installations of 7 (3 physical, 2 VMs) One of mine is an old P-III w/512MB of RAM and working a charm. Vista wouldn't even install on it.
#1.4 lflashl on 31 Jan 2009 - 08:09
I have a couple of BSOD, i think we should wait a little while longer!!!

He's just craving attention, and "someone" is giving it.....

He's not craving attention, nor is he demanding anything. Go to the actual website and read.
#3.1 excalpius on 31 Jan 2009 - 10:24
Seriously. Who gives a rat's ass about what this nobody wants?! Why is this even posted on the front page at all?!!
#3.2 Jugalator on 02 Feb 2009 - 13:24
^ Agreed with the above. This beta has not gone through the typical QA procedures and god knows what kinds of bugs are lurking in it. This is stupid and this person is a nobody and this is not interesting.

Windows 7 is nowhere near being perfect yet, I'd rather MS fix all the bugs in it before they release it so they can avoid another Vista fiasco. Windows 7 is going to be great, but have some patience. I think it's definitely good enough to release by the end of the year though.

You want to wait another 6 or so years when it gets changed many times over. That is what lead the ruin of Vista. Much of what was pomised was removed.

What are you talking about? Windows 7 is still on schedule for a release this year.
#5 rdmiller on 31 Jan 2009 - 00:55
Windows 7 is going to be phenomenal, expecially if you have more than 32 cores on your processor. Oops.

Why is this even in "news"? It's ridiculous. Microsoft will release it when it's ready, not because someone made a petition.
#6.1 TRC on 31 Jan 2009 - 01:03
I was going to ask the same thing. Who cares what some blogger thinks? I can start a blog; will I get to be front page news too?

"I think, no wait I demand that Microsoft write Windows 7 as Windows VII, everybody look at me!
#6.2 mayamaniac on 31 Jan 2009 - 01:09
Neowin Users demands Bloggers to stop stupid campaign petitions now.

Seriously, Win7 is not ready in my experience.
#7 splur on 31 Jan 2009 - 01:27
Guh, no hurry. Take your time Microsoft, well not too much time but don't try and push it out when it's not ready.

@TRC
You have to admit, Windows IX would look pretty damn awesome and you know they're totally going to do it too.
#8 SHADOW-XIII on 31 Jan 2009 - 01:30
stupid, yes BETA 1 is soooo good and stable but not THAT much stable, still experiencing some problems here, am using it as main computer so can tell ...
#9 Relic1980 on 31 Jan 2009 - 02:04
I have been using it since it got released as beta 1, and I agree, it is really good (certainly better than Vista at this stage, or even before SP1). But "good" in this case don't mean "done". I think we will see more improvements when the RC comes out (and hopefully the bugs ((and there are bugs)) will be ironed out).

But this is easily the best beta I've seen from Microsoft.
#10 LTD on 31 Jan 2009 - 02:17
I voted, just for the lolz.
#11 Caveman-ugh on 31 Jan 2009 - 02:21
When Windows 7 is ready to go gold (RTM) fine, but.....if they (microsoft) can make it even better by that time, the better for everyone ! It is rumoured that it will go RTM in April, whats wrong with that.
Don't get me wrong I would love to have it as early as I as can, but I am willing to wait, as I am using the Beta and its fan-bloody-tastic compared to the experience I had with Vista and is better than Xp as well.
But Paul Thurrot thinks this guy is a joke and so do I.
#12 chris4 on 31 Jan 2009 - 02:47
Great. Pressure on MS to release Windows 7 early.
Now we're going to have another rushed OS.
I think 99% of people are more than happy to wait.
I'm perfectly fine on XP and look forward to the Windows 7 release when it's ready.
#13 signalpirate on 31 Jan 2009 - 02:47
many users who use the beta say this is going to be one of the finest releases so far from Microsoft after the dreadful Vista start

of course it is.. it's also the FIRST since vista.. so one would suspect everyone would think its the finest so far since vista.... geez
#14 yakumo on 31 Jan 2009 - 02:54
Hah, just look at the Neowin forums, it's not the chaos of the early Vista bug lists, but I'd still like to see all the complaints there dealt with.

Especially -
Proper support for USB memory drives with multiple partitions.
UAC settings changes should ALWAYS spawn a UAC prompt (prevent recent exploit)

I really llike the win7 beta but I'm not risking wasting time having to redo anything for my degree by making it my default OS atm.

here's one "glaring" bug for you with W7, and one worthy of not going RTM with the public beta release:
move the taskbar to the top of the screen, then hover up high on the chevron / down arrow to pop up the former "systray" icons... bet you get the "Show Hidden Icons" tool-tip popping in and out. Basically, if the mouse pointer is closer to the top of the screen than the height of the tool-tip, the tool-tip shows and hides ad-infinitum until you move the pointer away.
move the taskbar left or right and the tool-tip pops out fine, just when the bar is up top do you get this issue.

That's not a bug. That's an undocumented feature. ;-)

and another issue-
upgrading from Vista (with at least this version of the beta), the current Zune software will not recognize a previously connected Zune device unless the Zune software is uninstalled, then reinstalled.
#17 abecedarian on 31 Jan 2009 - 04:09
On the other hand... I went from a 2.3 "Experience" under Vista to a 3.0 under W7. Both based on "3D business and gaming graphics performance" or however it's worded. NVidia GeForce 7150M integrated graphics- HP DV6609WM laptop.
#18 Mav Phoenix on 31 Jan 2009 - 04:57
I just blogged against this today actually.
Link
It's these kind of people that will pump it up in their vocal medium and then bash it into oblivion the moment it fails them after release.

This is what happens when you let idiots on to the Internet
#20 Digix on 31 Jan 2009 - 06:15
Far too bloody early what an idiot.
#21 umtech on 31 Jan 2009 - 07:05
There are several things that are close but not working correctly Its not ready for release.
#22 Tikitiki on 31 Jan 2009 - 07:12
Christ, whoever the hell thought of that, "Release Now!," needs to GTFO the internets. I think they want all of us to have an unstable/buggy OS.
#23 BigCheese on 31 Jan 2009 - 11:31
Its almost ready for a release, but there are still a few things that need to be improved/fixed. There's no need to rush it.
#24 rakeshishere on 31 Jan 2009 - 12:02
Patience, my boy... Patience is the key. Wait for some time and you will not recieve a "should have been" product or a half baked like Vista
#25 c e 3 2 0 on 31 Jan 2009 - 13:05
I think this is a terrible idea, rather futile and ultimately pointless.

The reason why Vista received so much bad press was because towards the end there was commercial pressure to get a new OS out which lead to features being dropped and arguably a few questionable decisions being made.

As a Vista user and a 7 tester I would rather Microsoft do it right, do it correctly and release into a wave of positively publicity rather than into a negative one which has irrevocably tarnished Vista's release.

From my own personal testing experience, yes, sure 7 is fairly solid - but it isn't release ready. There are a sizable number of issues in it that I am still experiencing across multiple hardware configurations, particularly in Media Centre and based upon my experiences in that regard I find the idea of asking for them to RTM it in a test phase absolutely laughable.
#26 bradsday on 31 Jan 2009 - 14:14
Slow news day? Of course Microsoft is not going to release Windows 7 just because some moron demands it on a blog. Simply, who cares.
#27 P1R4T3 on 31 Jan 2009 - 14:45
Ship it when its ready.
#28 +Dale on 31 Jan 2009 - 14:58
sounds like a bad idea
#29 WesParmal33 on 31 Jan 2009 - 17:01
Wait til' its complete, then release it
#30 DanielZ on 31 Jan 2009 - 19:19
Vista was terrible because M$ rushed it. But hey, if it helps to bring down M$, then release 7 by all means
#31 m-p{3} on 01 Feb 2009 - 02:14
Looks like that blogger wants a Windows Vista Release 2.
#32 Lord Ba'al on 01 Feb 2009 - 02:19
While Windows 7 already does run my better than Vista at release, it's still a tad bit early.
He should simply install the Beta and wait until it's done (which will aready be this summer, by the looks of it).
#33 +ispamforfood on 02 Feb 2009 - 13:25
Honestly, after using it for a while now, I believe there is more that could be done..... They should really push out a build from the RC branch to testers before actually releasing the official RC.
#34 C_Guy on 02 Feb 2009 - 16:05
How about let Microsoft finish it and then release it? This blogger needs to go apply for a job at McDonald's so he (she?) has something to do.
