TechCrunch is reporting that Google's Chrome browser may possibly be getting extensions this May. The news comes from a programmer named Nicholas Moline, who happened to notice that Google has posted an event named 'Developing extensions for Google Chrome' on their I/O site.

Keep in mind that this isn't an official word from the company itself, but if Google has seminars prepared on the matter, it mustn't be far away. Besides, Google has already stated they have planned to bring extension support. The description on the seminar reads "Learn how Google Chrome makes it easy to write extensions using the web technologies you already know. This talk will cover the basics of the extension system (distribution/packaging, installation, updates), as well as the different APIs to enhance with the browser."

This is exciting news for Chrome users, as many have longed for extension support in the browser. This new feature support will bring a lot more competition Mozilla's Firefox, which already has a well established extension developing community.

Google Chrome was released in December, 2008, and is currently available for Windows, but is in development for Mac OS X and Linux.

An OS X port on May... or at least May 2011 would be nice as well...

Apparently, an OSX version is coming out this year, or so I heard. As for Linux...

"Tough" competition? WTH are you talking about? There is NO competition. They BOTH suck, especially in Windows!!
Firefox is ALMOST tolerable under Linux. Chrome definitely needs extensions to even be close to good though, but still WAY better than Firefox.

competition is good, i suggest you look it up. so they suck in windows eh??? got anything to backup your claims? the only thing chrome got over firefox at the moment is speed, with FF 3.1 coming up it's almost up to speed with chrome. while chrome has come a long way chrome is far from being better than FF. either way competition between FF and Chrome is good for both of them. whether you like it or not there is competition, between them.

Zero competition if you have even the slightest concern for privacy.

Oh dear, they might know my search habits and what I browse. Fortunately for me, the things I browse are basically the things I talk about with my friends. But yeah, it's devastating if anybody finds that stuff out. I don't even know how I'll continue living.

Currently available for Windows, in development for OS X. Is the Linux side dead or something?

I long for the day where a Linux version of popular software comes out, if not necessarily when the Windows version comes out, at least at the same time as OS X. Yes I know there's the open source version of Chrome (Chromium), but it's not out yet and I have yet to hear of someone actually running a working native version of Chrome on Linux. Yay Open Source!

Google's textual ads are not the ones people urge to block.

Posting on the forums != the newsdesk. God forbid someone else find it just the same as you found it though, right?

Sheesh, some people are so crazy for attention. Get over yourself.

Good because for me the lack of plugins is the main reason for not using Chrome.
