Neowin earlier reported that the RTM Escrow build of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 had been released to a group of internal testers. Microsoft today released Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 RTM Escrow build to Connect beta testers.

This build is available on Windows Update for download and install or by a number of other package options such as Slipstream versions and Standalone installers, for the Connect beta testers. The build string reads 6002.17043.090312-1835 which is different from the one we reported earlier.

If you are a Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 Connect beta tester, you can download this build today from Microsoft Connect.

That should mean that Windows 7 RC should not be that far away now that that's out.

How do you figure that the Vista and 7 life cycles are in no way connected.

I think he means that they can concentrate wholly on 7 now (unless of course they find some showstopping bug in the Escrow build). Although I do understand what you mean.

Service packs (especially second service pack) are produced by a small team at MS called WinSE (Windows Sustained Engineering) - most of them from MS India who also produced XPSP3. Windows 7 development is going full steam ahead but of course MS may artificially adjust the release cycles.

Pretty likely if it's available on Connect.

I can't stand it anymore. Someone give me Win 7 RC!!!!

I second that. I hope we don't have to wait till May for the RC. I hope we get it early April since it has been a few months since the public beta was released.

The Build I have is actually 6002.17506.090313-1730

Yea but that is a leak. There must be a reason for releasing a slightly older build (one day though) to the testers.

Cool. I guess this means that SP2 is getting close to final... Is there a release date yet? I'm just curious. Is there any significant changes?

Also, does anyone know what the plans are for 7's Beta? I kind of assumed they would be releasing updates to 7 from time to time...

Thanks,

This new Escrow build is causing me endless problems, i may to revert back to SP1 for now.

So far i have noticed sluggish and unreliable performance,

Prompted for Activation even though my copy of Windows Vista Ultimate is genuine but now being flagged as counterfeit even though the product key came from Microsoft after completion on beta process in 2006. ( http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=753056)

Slower than normal boot and shutdown times

Abnormally high CPU/Memory usage

and Random explorer hanging .

if anyone else has these issues or have a solution then feel free to send me a pm
