The wait is over folks, Microsoft has published the download page for the Windows 7 RC. As we noted earlier, the download was scheduled to launch tomorrow and was to be available worldwide. Coming straight from the download page, here are Microsoft's notes for the release candidate:- You don't need to rush to get the RC. The RC will be available at least through July 2009 and we're not limiting the number of product keys, so you have plenty of time.
- Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you'll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You'll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use. (Learn more about installing Windows.)
- Protect your PC and data. Be sure to back up your data and please don't test the RC on your primary home or business PC.
- Tech details/updates: Before installing the RC, please read the Release Notes and Things to Know for important information about the release.
- Keep up with the news. You can keep up with general technical information and news by following the team blog. And, you can get non-technical news, tips, and offers by subscribing to the monthly Exploring Windows newsletter.
- Keep your PC updated: Be sure to turn on automatic updates in Windows Update in case we publish updates for the RC.
- Installation: You can install the Windows 7 RC on a PC running Windows Vista without backing up the PC—but we encourage you to make a backup for safe keeping. If you're running Windows XP or the Windows 7 Beta, you'll need to backup your data, then do a clean installation of the RC, then reinstall your applications and restore your data. If you need to do a backup, please see How to back up your PC for more details and a suggestion for how to backup a PC running Windows 7 Beta or Windows Vista.
So without further a-do folks, click here to go to Microsoft's download center and download the Windows 7 RC. Microsoft has also launched the Technet download which you can find here. On a side note, it appears as if you will be issued a new product key for the RC. It is most likely going to give you the extended time for using the RC if you have downloaded from another source. Installation instructions can be found here.
If you're wondering what has changed from the beta release to the RC, click here to read our guide. Is your system up-to-par for Windows 7? Microsoft has confirmed new system requirements for Windows 7, click here for more information.
Kudos to Jbenisek for letting us know.

I just hope that ClearType actually goes away when you tell it to. Previous versions pretty much ignored what you wanted and shoved ClearType all over the place even if it wasn't being used system wide.
And you would want to do that because.....?
Edit; 30 seconds later; nevermind.
All is fine on my end, getting a decent 680-720KB/sec download.
Yeah... Something wasn't working right to start. I switched to IE (from Firefo
"Could not resume, file has changed on server. (mismatch file size) Try to download a fresh copy of the URL."
Then it asks me if I want to start over, yes/no. If I hit yes nothing happens. If I hit no nothing happens. Good times.
Edit: Yep, I switched to IE and now it's working.
I am using Firefox and have no problems. A Java applet launched and I am getting about 523Kb/s. I am not sure why mine is a bit slower. Probably servers slowing down. Too many people downloading. I normally get about 1MB+/s from MS' servers.
There's a credit in there for you
And I found out about 10 minutes before you did so nyah nyah!
I have 6 more keys now . so guess laptop gets it too now
HUH?? That has nothing to do with "bad" keys.
dugg
Hm... And a Fatal Error. It has begun. LOL
Beta expires this year (I think July 2009)
RC expires in 2010 (somewhere near June 2010)
Where did you find the actual link?
lol
And I'm shock with your speed, here in Costa Rica the best speed is 1MB (so, download to 128kbs)
Spanish: 7100.0.090421-1700_x86fre_client_es-es_retail_ultimate-grc1culfrer_es_dvd.iso
What should I do? or what's happening
Why Akamai Technologies??
Now's working (Y)
lol
haxed by randolph yeahhh boyy lol
The link still works. wget is happily downloading the .iso in the background while I'm typing this.
The link still redirects to the Windows 7 homepage for me... odd.
Well, it works for you, so it must work for some others aswell? I apologise for my mis-information
Another moderator removed this because you reported it and in the reason for report, you wrote "Mistake".
As with the other moderator, I would have also thought you meant the process was a mistake. What did you mean in your report?
Either way, it is not against the rules and I can repost it for you if you wish

may be because your ISP is proxying your connection, while is good in some case (for example to fast download from the cache) but its stink for other uses.
Nope
Same here, didn't work in Minefield.
(If u want to enable others editions, just have to modify the ISO, Open the Sources folder, find the file Ei.cfg, and delete it)

Nope.
No, this is a release candidate, it won't be the final release.
this is an RC, as such, it's not what they're selling. it's the Candidate for [final] Release, hence RC
Its the RC, not the final. When the final comes out you will need to install it. It has all versions on the disc your key decides what gets installed.
The version is Ultimate (RC). AKA Windows 7 Kitchen Sink Edition (KSE).
I think I will stick to my Unique beta key unless they change something to disallow it from being used.
Yes, I did:
As in, I never said its better to use a unique key, I simple said I prefer to use one because I have it available.
Other than that, Windows 7 is great.
/get off my lawn
Exactly, be happy they dropped that old junk, it really was about time.
"This is the really fun part of the testing process: you help by simply using the RC. When you do, your PC will automatically and anonymously send our engineers the information they need to validate the changes and fixes they made based on the Beta tests and your feedback."
O.o
They are bit-for-bit the same, there is no difference. This has been repeatedly verified. Why do people STILL think there will somehow be a difference??
Hash values are hash values. Most likely the hash from the official build's identical to the hash of these ISOs, thus absolutely no changes. If hashes match, the file's the same no matter what.
One thing that somewhat bothers me though.
"Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours."
Isn't there a better way to handle this? I get the point of it but COME ON MS isn't there another way like pop ups or notifications?

Well you could always install the final release, months earlier.

So as you all can see, they're the same.
Nice and fast, boots quick too.. looking good :-)
Yes. And although my hardware supports it and has it enabled, it Virtual XP still claims that it isn't enabled. Just plain stupid.
I really liked this one ,windows 7 is "a usable vista"
good point there.
As for not using it on a primary pc... we know you gotta say that Microsoft, but seriously, is anyone NOT using Windows 7 RC1 as their main OS except perhaps on a (very old) netbook?
Windows 7 has broken pre-release etiquette by being perfectly usable and virtually bug free (as bug free as vista RTM/SP1 for example!
Yea...i opened Google reader and just saw this news on Neowin's Feed first.
UK ADSL 8mbit
cheers OP
It worked with copying and pasting the link instead of just clicking on it, thanks!
Now trying plain download via IE, slow but hope that it will not be corrupted.
For 2 times.
Connection reset for my plain download via IE.
Guess I'll try again in the morning.
--------------------
Translation, Windows 7 expires March 2010, NOT June 2010.
Good God, will you people please READ what people have said repeatedly here (in this news post and other threads in the forums here)????
Post was #28.2. Thanks
While I have cable HSI, I have Blast! (Comcast HSI DOCSIS 1.1), not one of those fancy FIOS or DOCSIS 3.0 home connections (despite both being available in my area).

41 Secs left....? I'm very excited.

Install ImgBurn
You're assuming he's using the Windows 7 beta or any builds after it.
I agree with WA7ER. Use ImgBurn.
I was getting 1.16mbs (sorry)
Just refresh the page that loads with the download link and key given, you will get a new key then that you can use to install on different machine as well. Although I am fairly sure you can actually use the key given for multiple installations, the one key/one machine license won't start until final version.
Thanks
October 2010 is financial suicide. You're missing two back-to-school and one Christmas shopping seasons.
You know, while you can upgrade from an XP/Vista installation its really NOT recommended. And this is the very reason. You'll never find out if that BSOD was from vista or 7.
Now, to download Windows 7. Too bad I have to download both 64 and 32 bit versions as I can't run 64 bit in VPC D:

x64 runs fine in my Virtualbox?
Thanks
Linkage?
No because we do not sanction unauthorized distribution of Microsoft's ISO packages. If you're having problems downloading, you should contact Microsoft. Otherwise go use Google.
chow for now.
I don't know, maybe the fact that *other* people here have been asking about the keys and if they are unique/multiple use. Quit being snarky and RTFT before blasting people, k? Just because the previous builds were that way didn't mean this RC was going to be the same. Man I tell ya, you provide a little advice or info around here and you get people that stick it up your rear.
Thanks a lot
the ATI drivers BSoD again.... when i attempted to install the latest ones over the beta drivers.... works fine when i uninstalled the beta drivers before installing the latest drivers....
oh yea.... it took me about 3 hours to upgrade....

If you're using the beta 9.4 (or earlier) Vista or 7 drivers, switch to the RTM Catalyst 9.4s (this is a unified Vista/7 set) if you're running 7 RC 64-bit and have HD2xxx or newer GPUs; do NOT install Catalyst 9.4 (in either Vista or 7) if you have X1K or older GPUs (as they are not supported by that version). My Mom and I are both running 7 RC (32-bit in Mom's case, and 64-bit in mine; we both have ATI-powered graphics cards).
Upgrading from beta to RC is not supported/suggested; upgrading from Vista *is* supported.
i had to yank that soundcard out of my pc for a successful installation....
i took another risk by upgrading too, just to let ye cool blokes at neowin know.... my wma files are still playing fine!
no bonked DRM in my upgrades from Vista to 7000 to 7100.
too bad i'll have to backup my wma's when i finally get to install retail version..... come 2010....
Now I have to start all over again.
I'd assume just as well as it would on any other Intel-based platform. You shouldn't have very many driver problems, as Windows 7 generally works with Vista drivers just fine.
But then I don't own a Mac. (Correction: I don't own an Intel-based Mac. I still have a few G3s.)
I am a web developer and having quick access to IE6 w/o having to run the VM itself will make my life so much easier. I've been searching on Google all day today but no info so far (I guess it's too soon) so if anyone knows how to show IE6 in the start menu and run it w/o the VM running please let me know!!!
C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuPrograms
This will work for any of the "built-in" windows apps.
Also, I prefer the Vista minimise, maximise and close buttons, the way they're flush means you're less like to miss!
Also not really liking Media Player 12 compared to 11.
Also not showing preview windows when overing over an open program on the task bar - but thinking that may be a graphics issue?
And finally, I still wish the Windows orb stuck out a bit like in Vista
Pretty cool stuff though my iccle gripes aside

Click start, type... how is it difficult to use?
AFAIK, the minimise, maximise, and close buttons haven't changed... am I missing something?
What don't you like about WMP12?
Do you have Aero enabled? If not, the preview windows won't show...
Who, me or him?
WMP 12 - I think the interface and look of 11 is better.
Search - I don't feel like there's enough control or dig down options?
I can't wait until this spreads through the business world because it will make my job as an IT Administrator soooo much more easy!

I ejected Vista Ultimate last week (64-bit) and went entirely with 7 RC 64-bit as sole OS. Why? Stability, stability, stability.
Even with a mere gigabyte of system RAM, I have not had a BSOD, even though I push to the point where 32-bit versions of 7/Vista/XP would BSOD or otherwise cry uncle.
The only problem I had was with the audio driver. But to my surprise, I downloaded the XP audio drivers from Dell and they work.
I am seriously considering upgrading my desktop.
Got the corrupt file warning at 100% for the third time!!!
Connection reset when plain download with IE.
Damn, I'll try plain download with Firefox next.
Download got cut off at 18mb.
Ok, next trick is via Down Them All! in Firefox
By the way, anyone knows any reliable torrent?

Took around 30hours to download the iso... but Yay!!
EDIT: Forgot, the fastest setup ever. Installation took about 20 minutes on my Dual Core, 2GB RAM laptop. Installing all my programs and it only took about 2 hours.
