It looks like the rumor mill is heating up again, because according to Tech Crunch, Apple may be looking into buying Twitter. One source says, "Apple is in late stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June." However, we've heard nothing else so far. There were rumors that Google was also in talks to buy Twitter, however, the founders say they do not want to sell.
With Apple's WWDC coming up, it's possible we could hear something, but given that Twitter doesn't want to sell, it's more than likely the same outcome will happen with Google trying to buy Twitter.
Update: It looks like this rumor has been debunked, because according to Kara Swisher, both Twitter co-founders, Evan Williams and Biz Stone, are in New York today to attend the 2009 "Time 100″ dinner and haven't been in any serious talks with Apple at all. The only serious talks Twitter have in with is with Facebook, and that fell flat as well.

"Rumor: Apple to buy Your Mom?"
I agree, I see no worth in Twitter.
Look at it this way, the Apple Mac is "known" to be relatively virus free, and just about everyone I talk to says that its better for graphics projects and it crashes less. Why? Have the people I talked to done studies to show that it is better or crashes less? Have they run tests on Macs for security? NO.
Its all about branding. If I can get you to believe that this brand, this Mac does all these things without question and without doing the research yourself, then I have successfully branded the name. Its the same with Pop Music and fast food.
+1
Because apple has wronged you???
Unless the devil himself or some terrible company that murders people buys it, I don't see what the big deal would be.
By all means, this rumor is just Michael Arrington being Michael Arrington. He is doing what he does best by citing an anonymous official close to the negotiations and starting a new wave of rumors every few months. If there is anyone who is looking to go all-out for twitter, it would be Google or Microsoft. But, of course, that is if the twitter founders are willing to sell to begin with.
Not everything becomes instantly better once bought out by a corporation.

Don't buy Twitter, Apple! It's a waste and will fail in due time, like many other Internet startups that made high traffic, not profits, their priority...
