Microsoft's new Bing 'decision engine' gained a lot of attention and publicity when it was first released not long ago, but now that the excitement has died down, how will the Redmond company work to improve it and make it more accessible? Well, according to Long Zheng's I Started Something blog, they'll be bringing in mobile applications for it, and some concepts have been revealed.

Microsoft has actually already set up a Bing for mobile webpage, explaining some of the features, but it's being hinted that an actual Windows Mobile based application is coming very soon. However... it is said that it will actually be expanding beyond Windows Mobile devices, and it'll be able to be used on the Sidekick and all BREW-supported phones (it'll be included on all Verizon BREW phones in November).

This service will be expanding to Europe, after the U.S., and local content will be available for the U.K., France and Italy. These launches are planned to be between August and September, which Zheng claims is still accurate. The concepts showed are just that, concepts, and expect the final product to look slightly different. Never-the-less, it's good that Microsoft is pumping out the Bing goodness with full force.

If they keep the interface clean like that it will be nice. I just hope it works. Google Maps is fairly impressive when it comes to location services.

It would be nice if they made a J2ME version...

If they want to compete they'll have to. Yahoo's offering is quite nice.

I use google's mApps right now, but I'd switch to Bing in a heartbeat if it was available.

Kumo is the mobile application name? or it'll swap over to bing as well?

I like Kumo, but I think Microsoft would want it all under one name (Bing)

I hope they develop the apps for the iPhone and android based phones as well (since they are quite popular)

Just pick a name. I got a feeling my mail will be bing mail soon. Funny it's still at hotmail.

I believe Windows Live Essentials will remain as they are. Only the search will be called Bing.

The "locate me" feature using A-GPS needs to improve over what's in Live. When I'm with my girlfriend in Staten Island, Google will put me a few blocks from her house before even locking on to a satellite, yet Live puts me in Jersey.

It's nice. I like the tabed interface. It would be really nice if there was a tab that contained a customizeable home page. Weather, Customized Links, etc. Otherwise it looks very nice and clean. I hope it fits the screen realestate well.

Maybe just maybe it says kumo because that is the working code name and not public, just as the desktop version was. See that would make sense.

I really wish they would have kept the Live branding though.

Bing is better than Live. They want Bing to become as versatile as Google.

Use Bing. Go Bing that. Did you Bing it?

Live doesn't work in that sense.

Bing is much easier to remember and has a nice sound to it. It could easily be swapped out for google in the "I googled it" statements as bangbang023 noted.

this is going to be a website ready for mobiles, so don't worry about it.

Actually the iPhone can see that as well.
#12.2 vetbangbang023 on 24 Jun 2009 - 03:10
No, this would be an application, not a website.
