Earlier today the guys over at GeekSmack.net "confirmed" that Windows 7 was set to RTM (release to manufacturing) on July 13, which also coincides with Wzor's unconfirmed rumor last month. A few minutes ago sources close to the company, who wish to remain anonymous, have confirmed to Neowin that Windows 7 is indeed set to RTM on July 13.After a year of furious beta testing and continuous leaks every other week, Microsoft is finally ready to give Windows 7 the green light to hit the market. Currently the Windows 7 team is working on polishing off the RTM build so that no show-stopper bugs are present in Windows 7. The date, July 13, also coincides with the kickoff of the Worldwide Partner Conference that is taking place in New Orleans.
Note: Don't confuse RTM and GA (General Availability), as these are two totally different phases. RTM in a nutshell is typically the final build that we will see when Windows 7 hits GA later this year (Unless, of course, there's a show-stopper bug found), but is released to manufacturers so they can work out any bugs the software may encounter with hardware devices. General availability is scheduled to launch on October 22, which will give the tech savvy world time to save up money.
So with that said TechNet, MSDN, and a few other partner connections should also be getting the RTM build on or shortly after July 13. So let the countdown begin!

I can't wait either

It will be the same.

Your big problem here will be finding a key that will activate, unless you're prepared to reinstall every 30 days.
Do you both honestly think it will take 30 days to be cracked?? I don't once it's out there I give it a week or so, teams around the world, will be falling over themselves to be the first to release this with a working keygen/patch.
Is this true? I intend to buy it when it comes out in October but wanted to be running as soon as it hits RTM. If it'll lock me out every 30 days forcing me to reformat however, it's probably not worth it.
Unless there's some way to buy a key earlier? How much does technet or MSDN cost?
Some witty guy you are, aren't you? You can come to my home and try to "crack" Windows XP so that I can install Microsoft Security Essentials on it.
Unless there's some way to buy a key earlier? How much does technet or MSDN cost?
I think you should be able to rearm Windows 7, like Vista. However I am not sure, they may have removed the feature, as it led to a crack being released which made inifinite rearms possible.
I believe you are underestimating the pirates. They will likely have keys before the MSDN and Technet subscribers. I'm not endorsing it; I'm just a realist.
I can wait..

I think they will leave it but also close up the loophole that made it possible. It is still present in the RC build.
Yea. That's what the other guy was saying about the rearm command. The command is 'slmgr /rearm' for those that forgot.

Technet is 349$ plus tax right now.

It's already been done.
slmgr gives you 120 days max, sufficient time until 22 Octobre.
Oh, it is very very easy on Vista (it validates and everything), it's easier on Vista than on XP.
I can't.. I've waited so many long months as I could not risk trying BETA on my solo work/play computer but I wanted to do that everyday and now its so close.. I will get the RTM if I can.. even if I will have to reinstall it after 30 days I'll do that till October.. but I hope MS gives us new keys every month so we won't have to..
UPDATE: oops, I miss the "Note" paragraph lol
At the moment, I'm running the 7201 build. Could I upgrade install from it to True-RTM?
You can use Windows Easy Transfer to migrate all of your users/files/settings, etc off of your 7201 build, do a clean install of the RTM, and then re-run Easy Transfer to suck all of your stuff back. It actually works really well. You get all the benefit of a clean install, with all the convenience of not having to reconfigure everything yet again.
What good is rtm code leaking without a key for it. We know that any key that gets leaked will be invalidated by microsoft.

TechNet, MSDN?
I don't have that issue....so it's not showstopper. Likely to be hardware issue
One does have minor issues, but it could be a hardware problem.
I was promised to get a review license key from Microsoft on the RTM day so I should be able to get it ahead of u guys (unless if they change their mind)
i think i'll go freeze myself....
It doesn't at all. Sorry, MSDNAA is only released at GA.

Aero turns off just for one time and it's because Windows silently calculates your Windows Experience Index
Even if. End of July is a lot nicer than October.
It was worth a try. I thought someone out there may have been keen for a Windows 7 Celebratory spoon.
Sounds about right.
It is hard to find the first days it went live as MSDN uses Akamai for initial popular new releases then they put it on MSDN proper after the heat cools down.
Vista was VERY hard to get for the first 24 hours or so after it was made available.
... geez. It HAS been a long time!
Agreed, thank MS for Technet! (Y)
I think the technet membership is worth it just for the 2 free microsoft tech support calls.
LOL! Nice one.
Your CIA arn't you! SPY!
July 13 is just the date the escrow expires and the current build can be promoted to RTM. If for some reason the current build does not pass testing, a new build will go into escrow and yes, July 23 makes sense for a new escrow build to go through testing if the current build failed.
No doubt we'll see in due course .. It could well be true ..

No, that doesn't make it confirmed. However, as well as that person on a board saying that, the article also stated this -
That sounds like it has been confirmed, to me...
Of course, that is only when it is set to RTM, it could change. It's unlikely to change, but that is still a possibility.
Very excited. This is such a good Os, it shows too. Take a look at the beta's for instance, it was stable back then for christ sakes. Just hope to god Microsoft don'#t over load it with **** like they did with Vista.
I know a lot of people are angry about Microsoft removed essential apps such as movie maker, msn and so on.
I like it, a nice stripped down system. I don't think this move makes it faster at all to be honest.
I have been using RC1 since week one and i have had no problems with it and it's still fast as hell.
I am so impressed and will be happy to legally buy this version of windows. It's worth the price in my opinion.
Well done Microsoft. Unlike Apple you have actually listend to the customers rather than adding thing you "think" the customer wants.
You'll have to do a clean install, theres no upgrade option. I'll be doing a clean install. I am so excited and i am so pleased about this release. Finally Microsoft are doing things correctly.
1. public beta
2. public RC
3. Public RTM
4. huge improvements all around
Lets compare this to snow leopard. See? This is why i am going back to the PC. All snow leopard is are fixes, not refinement and i think, like Leopard it's another big joke. Goodbye Apple and overpriced hardware!
Jeez, next time check your facts before trolling. And why did you even feel the need to bring Leopard into this?
but why 13th? isn't it supposed to be unlucky. MS did skip the build version of office from 12 to 14. I
So no it isn't safe to assume anything. You'll see how it shakes down when the beta ends.
Never said they won't get a free copy
Also, TechNet and MSDN subscribers were allowed to post bug reports too and many, including myself, did.
Also, MSDN/Technet subscribers aren't in it "for the free software". We subscribe because it is beneficial for our jobs to do so. For Technet users they need to have access to the software so they can test it in their companies and learn it so they aren't looking silly when it is deployed. MSDN subs like me need it so we can test the stuff we write on the OS so users don't complain about apps that we make not working.

No no, you misunderstood me. There are many people that subscribe to TechNet and MSDN (not so much MSDN because of the price tag) because they want the software. I know most of the subscribers have a reason to subscribe other than for free software but there are many I know who just want the apps. I apologize for making it seem like I didn't understand your response, I did.
No, the whole OS is being RTM'd.
And yeah, I know what you meant
As a matter of fact...Best Buy is already getting ready cause most of their laptops from last year's models are being slashed by up to 40% off of retail. I saw their Asus gaming laptop that originally sells for 1500.00 selling for only 899.00.
I gathered that, I was wondering how they're gonna get keys to use it past 30 days.
But non-subscribers still won't have keys and I think that's what people are talking about? As they will get access to the same bits MSDN will get via some leaked source.
Well only time will tell. We'll see what happens.
+1
They "confirmed" an announcement would be forthcoming on July 13th. If I read it correctly it is an announcement of which build will be RTM, not the actual release itself. Yawn. Every day that goes by gives us one less day to guess and eventually it will be released and somebody's guesses will be correct.
about cracking it. when it does get cracked which it will probably within a day. MS can and probably will put out a windows update that detects cracked keys/versions that is mandatory to install if you want further updates.
Software Assurance

i think its 10 keys you get.
It cannot be used in production environments or development environments, and it's not designed to be a solution for getting Windows onto each of your personal desktops, laptops, and media centers for one low price.
Most notably, a very pretty, easy to understand table of who TechNet is designed for is on the same page that lists the cost, so you really shouldn't have missed it. :3
So no, you do NOT have to buy the OS after you have TechNet.
If you're getting your Win 7 from TechNet or MSDN, they will also have keys available.

RTM?
Is Windows 7 complete? I'm hearing that the final build is 6.1.7600.16384.win7_rtm.090710-1945 and dated July 10, 2009. I guess we'll see.
