Today Microsoft announced the availability of Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2. SP2 delivers highly requested features throughout the suite as well as a new tool, Document Connection, which helps improve access and browsing to documents on SharePoint and Office Live Workspace. "There's never been a better time to try Office 2008 for Mac — with SP2 we are not only delivering on top customer requests midcycle, but also taking a first step in bringing Microsoft software plus services to Mac users," said Mike Tedesco, senior product manager for MacBU at Microsoft. "This connection unlocks the door for Mac users to Microsoft services for easier collaboration and file sharing with colleagues, customers and classmates."
What's new:
- Custom Path Animation, adds the ability to author motion-patch animations. Users previously could only play back motion paths.
- Default Theme lets users define their default theme, including fonts, color scheme, and slide layouts.
- Increased launch and scroll speeds in Word and Excel 2008 for Mac
- Ability to upload to Office Live Workspace.
The download will go live today at 10:00 A.M. PDT, and will be available to download here or via Microsoft AutoUpdate.

That has been present in every update and still the program feels like a snail.

Yes, shower MS with nohting but praise or else.
If sanctified took some time to check out the update he would realise there is a genuine speed improvement - but bashing Microsoft is so much cooler than eating humble pie.
And who said I dont have the update installed?
Even if he hasn't tried it I would assume that the change would be minor, if any, as they've been listing performance increased for Office:Mac for years, and not once as there been any noticeable improvement.
There have been performance improvements listed for years - but they tend to be feature specific; having tried SP2 of Office 2008 for Mac, there is an overall performance increase.
I find it funny that there isn't the same degree of cynicism when it comes to Microsoft's other products - and the unmitigated disaster of that product I would rather not name.
If true then that's good news.
Go on. I'd love to know what product you'd consider to be an "unmitigated disaster".
P.S. I reported this on Back Page :, isn't that supposed to be mentioned?
Ah...learn something new everyday.
No. You did not submit this to the front page. There is a link on the front page that says "Submit to News Desk." Copy-paste news in the BPN forum does not count as news submission.
Read the whole article and you'll find that Microsoft wrote the software
woah... same here dude :s
as if just because it was OS X, every 3rd-party software for it would work magically and be magically flawless
How original, a post and run troll.
Sounds like your computer has issues rather than the software; interesting how you've never asked this in the Mac section of the website.
What are you system specifications? PPC or Intel?
