Apple's not been too great in the eyes of the public, as of late. Many (still, and fairly) have complaints about their App Store, due to the approval process, and many U.S. iPhone users have complaints about missing features (such as Tethering and MMS). With all this complaining, it would be safe to assume that consumers aren't too pleased with their purchases; alas, AppleInsider has reported that it's quite the opposite... the most recent product of the company, the iPhone 3GS, has a fairly impressive 99% success rate (of those that were surveyed). The report came from RBC Capital Markets, and shows the most liked (and disliked) features of the phone. Of the 200 respondents, the biggest issue with the device was the AT&T network, with 55 percent choosing that option. After that, 41 percent stated that the battery life was too short, and then apparently 8 percent complained that their I.T. department at work didn't support it. On the flip-side, it was the touchscreen that was most loved, with 45 percent of the votes. Following up on that in ranking was the ease of use, and then "faster Web browsing."
According to the study, "iPhone 3GS owners are a highly satisfied group, strongly loyal to Apple, and that Apple innovation (touchscreen, software UI, applications) is what continues to lure new buyers to its smartphones. The benefits to Apple for achieving this premium customer satisfaction include: strong pricing power, high customer lifetime value, powerful, inexpensive viral marketing (recommend to others), increased carrier channel leverage, indirect benefits to Apple's other businesses (e.g. Macs)." If you own an iPhone 3GS, how are you finding it so far?

Ok, but I have never seen you complain about all the MS-fanboys who get excited about a store opening up, or that bing has a new image on the home screen. of course, if you get rid of those posts, neowin would be empty.
200 isn't very much of a statistical foundation, but still, quite impressive...
It's a similar number to what they use in drug trials and quite a lot better then your common product review. I'm guessing they don't really publish their statistical methodology but so long as the demographic is broad enough it sounds like a pretty average survey, not too low or too high.
200 isn't very much of a statistical foundation, but still, quite impressive...
They probably did the survey inside an Apple Store or something.
My iPhone 3G is good, but I wouldn't say I'm 99% happy with it. Battery life is horrible, and the new 3.0 firmware has made it really slow and sluggish. I always wonder if they did that on purpose to "encourage" folks to upgrade to the faster 3GS.
I never saw the point of leaving my bluetooth turned on on my 3G. It's pretty much useless for anything but connecting headsets. You can't even send/receive pictures and video files to/from your friend's phones.
Awesome setup.
200 respondents is kind of a joke too...

Yea, but odds are good you don't have that many friends ;-)
Give me a phone where I don't have to murder my thumb on a stupid little ball-pad or be forced to use the stupid 2keys-per-1key typing system
Blackberry may rule in that it sells more devices, but that is only because it has the business market sewn up.
But consider this, Apple make more profit than ANY other mobile company. Apple makes more money than Nokia, who sell about 100x more handsets. Apple make more money than samsung, motorola, sony-ericsson, and blackberry. Amazing stuff.
Consider this - Apple charges too much (Apple Ta
You do realise that not every blackberry has a keyboard like that right? Many models have full qwerty.
How is any of this good for the consumer? Okay businesses need to make money, I just don't see why this is a good thing from your point of view as a consumer... unless you aren't a consumer Mr Jobs? lol
Does every comment here have to be pro-consumer. Is everyone here who doesn't rabidly hate Apple mr Jobs? All I am saying is that while others may lead in some areas, Apple leads in perhaps the most important, profits and satisfaction. That is an amazing combination, good on them.
Maybe MS will lift its game now, can't wait for the zune phone to appear.

Lol, a little research before posting will hide your ignorance. Blackberries have full qwerty keyboards.
And the trackball doesnt require much effort to use. But I guess the new iphone will have a psychic interface where you dont use your thumbs at all...
Hm, this seems like a weird comment!
Haha... actually a brilliant comment
99% is an impressive figure but 200 seems like a really really low number... I'd like to see more info on this report.
I hope you know there aren't any brownie points for post count on Neowin, so things like "+1" and "agreed" don't get you anywhere.
Here, have an anti-anti-fanboy cookie. Oh wait, they don't exist @_@.
p.s. Only joking just thought it quite funny :-)

Remember that guy from Foxconn who didn't like his iPhone 3Gs and got rid of it? Then suddenly "commited suicide" "jumping out of the window"...
1%, beware!

I thought it was a loaned prototype phone, not his own personal phone? Also, thought it was lost or stolen, not "he got rid of it"?
Lol...
They're not biased.
I know, unlike the security reports that Microsoft actually pay for, and for some strange reason keep saying how much safer ie is than everything else. I would trust this report more, because Apple didn't actually, you know, PAY FOR IT.
RTFA, the survey was done by RBC Capital Markets, a bunch of stock analyst. It's a really short article, I'm sure you can handle it.
Stock analysts are not credible.
Yeah. In fact Apple even charged them a neat sum for using thei iPhone® trademark in that report.
In general I agree, but they are at least as credible as anyone commenting on this article.
• cant bluetooth things to and from people (true i get the whole sharing music thing but what about photos?) [mms costs money and not many people actually have mobile email]
• the file system could be better. ie i cant copy all the photos from my old phone to my iphone via drag and drop, have to sync via itunes. (even then these photos cant be deleted or sorted via iphone).
• no flash on the camera (oh well!
• battery life
• sms details. when was it sent/received? (not rough time frame).
true most of those are trivial but its my 2c
But then your an Apple hater. Every time there's something in the news about Apple your sure to be commenting. Every time it's negative.
Just check the 4 comment's made in this article...
Those aren't trivial for anyone.
Good lord. This is what Apple does to people. Even if they realize what they're holding int heir hands sucks, they'll sugarcoat it to not feel bad about all the money they spent on it.

People spend there money on what they want, Apple doesn't force them, you don't want to thats fine, but also on the otherside why should we care that YOU don't want US to spend our money how we want, why do you even care.
You don't want a iPhone, great, happy for you, I don't ant a nokia, htc or blackberry I hope thats ok with you I'm happy with my choice of iPhone

Nice pickup, you think these people would have something better to do, learn to channel their hate into something positive. But no.

Most smart phone have bad battery life, my old ipaq phone was almost useless. It is not a camera, so why does it need a flash. Most camera phones don't have a flash, some do I know. SMS is not that important.
Saying all that, I do wish the battery life was better. But Apple can't work miracles.

i assume he meant adobe flash, not a camera flash...
I think the only thing they really added was the cut-and-paste feature. It still doesn't support EMS w/ AT&T. For me EMS was always nice to have but rarely used when I was with Verizon Wireless. I hope they add it, but to be honest if I want to send a picture to someone Email seems like a much better option all-around (unless I want them to get the picture immediately).
Oh. I didn't realize rows and rows and rows of icons with more rows on the side was considered a "slick" UI nowadays. Silly me.

Perhaps they meant 'slick UI' for the touchscreen capability?

Its very simple to use, unlike most phone OS.

My Sony-Ericsson is ten times easier to use and a lot faster than an iPhone. AND it has all of the features the iPhone has and a lot more for a way lower price.

And that very store is the very reason I don't want an iPhone EVER. I'm sticking to my E71 and waiting for E72. If I wanted a touch screen (which I don't) I'd get a Touch Pro 2 or Pre. At least I could get to multitask.
Oh and btw, most smartphones have low battery life my arse. E71 goes forever.

I think they are actually referring to the transition animations, and Coverflow which is actually awesome (own an iTouch not an iPhone). The main advantage the iPhone has in the UI department over any other smartphone is that is is very easy to use, which is why it is one of the most popular phones in the consumer arena.
I can not sync the damn thing on two different computers of mine. And I dont want to carry a laptop to the office just because I carry an Iphone in my pocket. I wish apple wasnt so evil about this..
Let's stop jumping to conclusions now, shall we?
It's probably a software bug. I also quickly checked to make sure it wasn't the case of a iPhone being tied to one machine.
I get 4 or 5 days on my iPhone, need to have wifi turned off is all.
So Microsoft solves the problem of WinMo devices needing to be restart in order to maintain good performance by....restarting it automatically every couple of days? That is so full of fail and it is really sad that you see it as a solution >
It bothered me that their sample population was only 200 people. A better data point would be how many people called Apple or AT&T with issues and how does that compare to other smartphones and providers.
1%
lol.
I'm guessing you're one of these people who doesn't like things to change much, also I'm guessing you're one of those who hated Vista and Windows 7 too?
I agree. Android does the same thing in the SMS app, and I actually find it far easier, also having them listed as conversations, per user, reduces clutter and makes it easier to find specific messages
It isn't perfect, but its by far better than any Nokia or Sony Ericsson handset out there.
I thought there may have been a typo, so there I fixed it.... lol
Need more hype for E72 tbh
For example, if Neowin do a survey asking :
"do you visited Neowin.net at least once?"
YES
NO
I DON'T KNOWN
Then you can bet that several people will answer "NO" even when logically is a lie. Other people will answer "I DON'T KNOWN".
Is common to make up a survey but, in this case, it is absurd, even for fanboys.
The "survey" says 99% approve, but, if the question is worded the right way, you can invoke a response
to your liking. If the question were something like this: "If you had a choice between your old phone and the
iPhone 3Gs, which would you prefer? Well, DUH! I wonder what kind of answer they would get? If their old
phone was a Razr, or other old phone, you know what the answer would be.
xD
I personally own an Android G1, and it is a match for the iPhone in every way apart from Music playback, so I can assure you I have no insecurity about my phone.
However you are typical of the perception of smugness and arrogance that people see in a lot of Apple fans these days, and that kind of attitude annoys a lot of people.
Oh and for the record I own an iPod touch before you fling the anti apple mud at me
Its more than that. It is as if people who have different phones are angry at us for having an iPhone. I don't really understand where all the animosity is coming from.... (wait yeah I do, its call Jealousy).
You don't honestly think its jealous, do you? The iPhone isn't that much more expensive than any other phone. If any of the people who don't like it (including me!) wanted one, its easy to get and not even expensive. My phone is actually more expensive than the iPhone.
I think the reason it wasnt approved at first is because the voice recognition of the google app was superior to apples effort hahahaha
However, when you get down to it, the 3G can probably handle it anyway. The reason it doesn't is because the 3GS needed another feature for an otherwise minor update.
Or not. How does that have anything to do with battery life?
If you don't know why do you show your ignorance by saying "Or not"
Don't you think having multitasking processes running in the background drain more power
I'm kind of disappointed at its email support. No way to rebuild local cache (and it took just 1 month for the mail store on mine to corrupt). Even deleting and re-adding the email account causes it to use the same local cache. So beware if you add or remove multiple email accounts, there is a chance all your old emails (from accounts you don't even have listed on the phone any more) may still be saved somewhere on the phone.
Besides that, there is no way to manage IMAP folder subscriptions. I don't mind having a hundred IMAP Folders in a big Desktop client where I can easily manage email and search through things. But I don't need pages and pages of the same folders on my iPhone.
Why can't I choose which ones to list?
To try and get around that, I tried some better IMAP folder structures on my Desktop client. But then, viewing the account on the iPhone again showed the old structure. How do you force it to refresh the folder list? It seems to randomly pick when to update the list.
The built-in camera software is lacking as well. They should have included something simple like Rotation. Many pictures I've taken were shown wide/vertical when they should have been displayed differently (based on how I was holding the phone). When I tilt the phone to try and view it correctly, the iPhone then tilts the image so I again am looking at it sideways. There are some free apps that do simple things like Rotate and Crop. Why couldn't this have been built-in?

My Boss had the same problem with the Exchange server. He has 100's of folders on the email server and the iPhone doesn't have a good way for managing this. I (on-the-other-hand) have 1 folder, my Inbox. Works great for my needs
For £25/mo I have got 600mins, unlimited texts, 500mb data on an Nokia N97 which they also gave me free (pretty much the closest you'll get to an iPhone, infact anyone trying to claim otherwise, the N97 has better specs on nearly everything compared with top iPhone model - the 3GS 32GB).
For £25/mo you cannot get an iPhone. Looking now the cheapest is £29.38 for 75 mins, 125 txt and unlimited data, the phone then costs you £275 for the 32gb model.
To get 600 mins it will cost you £35/mo and still £275 for the 32gb iPhone.
Okay I don't mind a slight premium on well designed products, but its about time consumers took a step back from the gloss and realised they are paying double for something of lower spec to what they could get. (oh and of course the N97 isn't "offered" at the price I have, anyone who gets a phone from the first store at the list price must be mad.
If O2 sold the iPhone to prices similar to the best deals you can get on other competitors withsimilar spec handsets, I think O2 would be making a loss.
The only issue I've had with the N97 is that my old 8gb micro SD card locks the phone up, so im stuck with only 32gb for the time being.
Idk...$299 for a phone + 32GB PMP seems about right to me. Sure, that comes with a 2y contract. But I've used a cell phone for years now. I don't anticipate sometime within the next 2 years that I won't want a cell phone anymore.
You do know that Symbian, the outdated mobile OS, is still the OS most used in the smartphone area right?
Cars are also outdated. So are bikes. And apples. And trees....etc
and did anyone complain about them?
I've heard that once jail-broken things get better, but none of my friends are willing to risk it, so I haven't seen it for myself...
