On the other hand, if it were a 5+ MP camera with a flash and still in the small packaging of the iPod Nano, than that would be a nice feature and I'd probably get one.
But you are probably right... it is going to be a crappy camera that is hardly worthwhile.
Seriously? All they did was VGA? That's really disappointing and completely removes any benefit to getting this new version. I mean, I didn't think that it made sense to begin with, but VGA? You've gotta be kidding me...
It is a video camera, it records video at 640x480, 30fps, mpeg4. It is the same as the flip, but you get a bigger screen, more memory, etc.
Still, nothing to write home about, but the nano is named at kids, and I hope you guys aren't kids.
Was expecting more.

The Nano is for kids? Well, I really like my Nano... I don't know that that's really true...
I did see that it does video, and that's kind of neat, but so does my camera, and my camera is 10 MP (And wasn't expensive either). I just don't think it's going to garner all that much interest... Who really needs to be able to record video or take pictures with their iPod Nano?

It can't even take pictures, btw.
All they did was say there was an Apple event with a few words etc.
It was the rumour sites etc that do all the hyping...

Some people have trouble differentiating reality from rumor, and people who talk about apple, and apple. There is loads of hype built up before an apple event, but not from apple. They do the opposite, maintain silence.
We all know apple overhypes everything. Remember their release of Leopard? "300 new features" or whatever. Yea, lol.

OK? I think I pretty much said that. hmmm
The touch is not great for games, as it has only one button. But the fact is, loads of people buy it for music, and it has the bonus of an amazing browser (the best mobile browser in existence), video, and a huge library of apps, which includes lots of games. But all the game need to make adjustments for the lack of controls, usually through screen controls.

Gotta correct you. Safari Mobile is NOT the best browser in existence. It's nowhere near. You obviously haven't ever had a chance to try Skyfire (skyfire.com). That browser actually has flash! And it loads faster! Dear god, did Apple just get beat?

Great, thanks for this. Do you know the price of the old 8gd ipod touch? Also, do they all have the faster processor? I will look for this info myself, but there is so much apple stuff today, for some reason, it can be hard to get specifics.

Yeah, I think the radio is probably a bigger new feature than the camera... That will be nice...
Yea, Apple was always anti-FM radio...wonder what changed that.......Zun....
ipod touch 2G always had a higher clocked CPU than the rest of the line-up (and I mean the iphone 3G, the 1st gen ipod touch and the 1st gen iphone). Does this update bring it to 3Gs levels? meaning that there have been 3 steps in cpu clock in the iphone/ipod touch era?
iPod Touch 2g:
CPU: Arm 6 running at 533 MHz
GPU: PowerVR MBX Lite
iPhone 3G S:
CPU: Arm 7 running at 600 MHz
GPU: PowerVR SGX
I guess now the ipod touch ... "2Gs" is up there with the iphone. The former models (iphone 3G and ipod touch 1g) were clocked at 412Mhz or something

How does opengl 2 compare to the nvidia tegra that the zune will have?

The touch doesn't haev open gl 2, it has open gl es 2, not the whole open gl api.
I imagine it would be the same for the Zune hd, since open gl es 2 is the latest open gl es version.
I would love to see one with gps, compass, but it would probably cannibal iphone sales, something they don't want.
Apple didn't breath a word about any of this, rumor sites did.
ok fine Apple slappies always build hype to disappoint.
Who cares, just ignore them, just as you should ignore all fanboys.
(in duke nukem boice)Now im really ****ed off
my guess is that they are almost selling more ipod touches than iphones and are trying to push people to dump the ipod touch and get an iphone if they want a cammera

Why? What made you go ZuneHD?
Many reasons for most of us...
- Subscription music, all you can eat.
- Beautiful, elegant interface, you've gotta admit it beats the iPod
- Full TV output, not just videos
- Perfect integration with the Marketplace for artist information
- NVidia Tegra, means that video games will be taken to a whole new mobile level
- Free updates, for life
- HD Radio (Apple doesn't have that)
- Buy from FM
- Wow, what else? lol
Those are some of the many reasons.
The old download was 74mb, it almost 14mb larger and downloading now.
Installed as 9.0.0.70.
there's not a camera in it but I wouldn't rule out the microphone yet.
It looks like the low end model doesn't have that, but the other models appear to.
Yup, it's up. Though only half the pages have been updated and it's confusing
Also, How much higher capacity does the battery life have to be? You can play music literally 25 hours. Or apps music youtube etc the WHOLE day.
I have a friend with a iPod Touch 2G that he got this summer with his mac book. He's used the **** out of it the first week and the battery lasted him all day, then charge. Not that hard to charge everynight.
I can understand if you think the camera is lame and not really a OMG advantage. but to wish NO camera?
So you are saying it should make coffee? Be a radar detector? Be a tooth paste dispenser? By your reasoning, it should have all of these features, regardless of how pointless or useless.

You can just not use the camera. You can even get an old case, which would hide the camera, so the only way you would know would be the icon, which with itunes 9 you can probably remove as well.

The device supports emailing through WiFi though. People like to email pictures around. How nice it would be to take a picture and email it to a friend. Including something so simple on the ipod nano, yet not including it on the ipod touch is just stupid.
I'll just not use the coffee maker and radar detector as well. And since adding useless and pointless features to a device will make it weight 10 lbs and be the size of a tank... yeah, I'm happy they decided to leave in only features that will actually be used. Not just 'covered up by a case' since they wouldn't be used anyway.
Simply put... iPod Touch 3g with 64 gig and Camera = no sale no how. iPod Touch 3g with 64 gig and NO camera.... well, maybe some day, but at least not an outright 'never!'.
too bad looks like its back the old tough 2g for me... speaking of.. where did i leave my upod touchl i seem to have lost it
I have to say the Nano looks really nice. I wish they would update the Classic to be similar to the Nano.
Looks like Apple spend all of thier R&D cash countering those Microsoft Ads.
The Apple website says it is updated, but what did they update? All the specs just address the 300 and 400 dollar ones.
And where is a bigger, more feature packed iPod Classic? More than 160GB HDD FTW

But whatever...Apple lost my one and only business with them. Make me pay $30 in additional fees to keep my firmware up to date is appauling. Why not just brick my iPod every 4 months and make me a buy a new one. Apple is power and money hungry and by charging for firmware updates to existing customers yet new customers get it free with their new iPods is a great way to **** off your current customers.
Is it just me or does Mr Steveie J look like a bum in that pic?
Yeah I know he's had all sorts of medical issues but a man in his position can afford the very best health care and perhaps even a razor blade and a little moisturizer too.
