Google has announced the next step in its ever evolving search engine, Social Search.

Google is currently rolling out a test version on Google Labs. The idea is simple, more relevant and personalised search. Imagine searching for New York and finding your friends blog on New York or searching for Florida and finding pictures of Disney World from one of your friends. It makes searching more personal.

All the content is available on the web but what Google has done is surface that content together in one single place to make your results more relevant. Google builds a social circle of your friends and contacts using the connections linked from your public Google profile, such as the people you're following on Twitter or FriendFeed. The results are specific to you, so you need to be signed in to your Google Account to use Social Search. If you use Gmail, Google also include your chat buddies and contacts in your friends, family, and coworkers groups. And if you use Google Reader, Google will include some websites from your subscriptions as part of your social search results.

Google Social Search will be available from Google Labs today.

Not as impressive as Bing Twitter search deal... The facebook one should be impressive with Bing.

This is just a hint of Google is up to. All these betas, all the little projects, they're not just random ideas, Google will eventually bring the functionality together under a single all-encompassing platform.

That less and less people will be willing to use, because for Google it's all about spying on people for the sake of the almighty advertsing dollars....sigh

And Bing isn't? Bing and Google search, and every other search engine are just as sinister as each other. Toadeater is totally correct. These tests will eventually merge into a more broad platform of search capabilities.

Pretty much all "free" online services are ad supported. It's Google's, Microsoft's, Yahoo's, Facebook's, Twitter's, wet dreams to collect user information and profiles to increase the value of their advertisements. This is how they roll.

Commenting now doesn't make sense - I think its worth a try, a good one.
The concept is already very good, Got to see how the implementation is.

I'm going to call it right now..another worthless project from google labs. that makes 100000. Of course I use google's services constantly but honestly I can't imagine how awful it would be to work there. Bust your brains for months on some new project only to see it fail along with 99% of projects that come out of their lab

Only clueless people like you use all their services that have the sole intention to spy on people for the sake of the almighty advertsing dollars....sigh
