PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is getting cross-play between Xbox One and PlayStation 4

Cross-play is reaching another battle royale title following Epic Games' success with enabling the feature in Fortnite. PUBG Corp. announced during Microsoft's Inside Xbox stream at gamescom today that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will soon let players across Xbox One and PlayStation 4 play together for the first time.

The update that will allow this highly requested feature is heading to the public test server first in late September. Following a week of testing, this will then be pushed out to the public builds of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in early October. Explaining why cross-play is such an important feature, the developer added:

Our first goal with cross platform play was for 100 players from both console communities to be able to play in the same match. Our second goal was to improve our matchmaking times, which we expect to be shorter for due to the wider matchmaking pool. Shorter wait times and more enemies on the battlegrounds = more opportunities to earn those chicken dinners.

The developer also said game updates for consoles will now come at a much faster pace than before, at least within two weeks of them hitting the PC version. Speaking of, the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Season 4 update is coming to console platforms on August 27.
