Do you still want a chance to get your hands on the now discontinued HP TouchPad tablet at fire sale prices? If so, HP has a nice deal that will let a few people purchase the WebOS-based device that debuted back in July and then was shut down in mid-August due to lack of sales. TechCrunch reports that in a letter sent to HP employees, the company said the TouchPads will go on sale Sunday at 7 pm Eastern Time on HP's eBay store in the laptop section.
HP is sticking with the pricing it gave the TouchPad after it announced it would no longer be making the tablet. That means the 16 GB model will be sold for just $99 while the 32 GB version will be priced at $149. HP will also sell a $79 accessory package for the TouchPad on eBay that gives users a case, a wireless keyboard and a charging dock for the tablet.
What's the catch, or in this catches? Well, the biggest one is that the TouchPads on sale via eBay won't be brand new models but refurbished ones with just a brief 90 day warranty. Another is that eBay users can only buy two of the TouchPads at one time. Finally, the payment must be done for the tablets via Paypal.
Meanwhile, we are still awaiting word on what HP will finally do with its WebOS division? Will it keep the operating system and hopefully sell third party licenses to other companies or will it sell off or shut down the division? We should get the final word on this matter from HP any day now.
