Messenger Plus! Live is an add-on for Windows Live Messenger which adds lots of features and extras that make your instant messenger easier, more useful or just tons more entertaining.

Messenger Plus! Live 4.21.270 (16/05/2007)

- Added support for the new "I'm" emoticons of Messenger 8.1 in various Messenger Plus! windows.
- Some improvements for script developers:

* The script editor window remembers its size and position.
* A "find text" window has been added to the script editor, accessible from the Options menu or with Ctrl+F.
* On error, the script debugging window now displays the file name associated with the line number where the error occurred.

- This version includes access to the 6th anniversary contest that will start in about a week from now. This will be removed in the next version when the contest is over. For more information, check out the announcement on msgpluslive.net.

- A new selection criteria has been added for event notifications. You can now choose to create notifications that automatically apply to contacts with opened conversation windows. Useful for example to get notified when someone signs-out unexpectedly if you don't notice it in the chat window.
- No extra header is added to chat logs anymore when closing a chat window and reopening it soon after. The default timeout for new session headers is 10 minutes and can be modified with the new ChatLogSessionWait registry setting.

Yeah, MSN needs an extreme makeover.
#2.2 IGx89 on 17 May 2007 - 13:44
Then upgrade to Windows Live Messenger
#2.3 Joshua-San on 17 May 2007 - 23:01
WLM isn't much better than MSN Messenger 5 though. The system is still as crappy.
I think it's time to delete all the code written for Windows Live Messenger and begin from scratch.

The site's getting hammered like hell at the moment. (edit: never mind.)

I don't use the features enough to justify the download (so I took it off soon after installing the last version) however, for the power messenger user I don't know of a better utility other than messpatch.
#6.1 Jexel on 17 May 2007 - 11:49
tabbed convos, DECENT chatlogs, boss protection

I'm sure light users will find these features extremely useful.

How may I disable that annoying icon? I don't mind about the contest.
#7.2 Patchou on 17 May 2007 - 21:20
to remove the icon (if you don't care about the contest), check out http://www.msghelp.net/showthread.php?tid=...&pid=817257

I wonder what Microsoft is waiting to buy this awesome piece of software and incorporate it to Windows Live Messenger.

I hope they don't do that, otherwise we will rarely see updates in a year's time.

The author was chastised by Microsoft for the adware/malware that this software will install on computers if the users doesn't refuse "support" the author by declining to install it. This malware package includes several European porn sites. Because of this he had his active MVP (Most Valued Professionals) status revoked by Microsoft last November (2006). I doubt if Microsoft will ever endorse the package let alone take it over.
#8.3 Patchou on 17 May 2007 - 21:22
There is absolutely no porn site advertised in the sponsor, keep your facts straight, and don't make it sound like the adware is enabled by default in the setup, it's not. As for my relation with Microsoft in general, it's very good (if it was not, they'd have killed the prog a long time ago).

LOL I followed the whole sordid episode last Nov when it happened. Including the "Official Reason" you lost your MVP status posted by Microsoft on the Net. And, if you read what I wrote correctly, I never said it was installed by default.......it only installs if the user doesn't "refuse" to support you by installing it. And yes, despite your claims to the contrary, the adware/malware does install links to porn sites.
#8.5 Patchou on 18 May 2007 - 00:20
yeah right
#8.6 Eis on 18 May 2007 - 05:14
I don't think clicking a small radio button that says "refuse" is a very difficult thing to do. Having it there is sort of, in my opinion, better than having to actually pay for the program. Everybody's gotta make a living.

It's really too bad his status was revoked. It's an amazing piece of software, really. It's hard to believe Microsoft was so anal about a guy trying to make some cash. I'm assuming, if it were left up to Microsoft alone, they wouldn't care. They probably crumbled under the pressure of the jealous community sending nasty emails, just like I'm sure jegar48 had a part in, because there were supposed links to pornographic material if you were stupid enough to simply click "refuse". Seriously, why was/is that so hard to do?

That aside, I love this program, and I use it and the plugins made for it quite frequently. I feel sorry for the people that feel the need to bash on Patchou or the software itself out of jealous or ignorant intent. If you don't like it, don't use it, and shut up.

I was one of the few that tested the Sponsor for Plus! Live. For months we would install the sponsor and let it run, reporting any 'bad/porn' popups. No porn popups. A couple adult dating sites but they didn't come back after they were reported.

So again, please get your facts right.

These are the facts.

April 2006

Nov 2006

I don't know about you, but I really don't want my 10 year old Grand Daughter getting links to Adult Friend Finder or other "Adult" Web Sites, being solicited to buy cell phones or anything else. And yes fan boys, my daughter and I make every attempt to sure this program is NOT installed on any machine my grand daughters have access to

In addition the MSG Plus Live "Advertiser" option continues to install a variant of the C2.Lop spyware/hijacker if a user decides to "Support" continued development of MSG Plus. If anyone would like to know what C2.Lop does to your computer, check this out.

CounterSpy

Despite your (and MR Pacculli's) denials, neither he or you have any control over what C2.Lop installs or what those installed routines link to.

Considering the age group that Mr Pacculli targets this program to and the fact that most people dont bother with reading installation screens, I think his tactics are deceptive and bordering on criminal. I would suggest you look at my latest post above, check out the links provided and see what installing his "Sponsorship" routine can do to your Machine. I may be ignorant in your eyes, but I am smart enough to prevent C2.Lop from being installed on my machine and I will continue warning others that MSG Plus has the potential to install it if they aren't careful and read what they are installing.

It's got adware in it, they won't endorse it.
#10 m-head on 17 May 2007 - 17:57
Forget what Microsoft thinks, it's not like you are forced to install the adware. You can't accidentally install it if you think for at least half a second about what you click.

Well, the auto-update notifier is not working, the only reason why I know about the new version is thanks here to neowin.net...!
#11.1 linx05 on 18 May 2007 - 06:58
IIRC, the auto-update is activated a few days or maybe as late as a week after the release to help stop hundreds of thousands (or millions) of users hitting the site all at once.
