Pidgin (formerly Gaim) is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks. Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time. Pidgin supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer, away messages, and typing notification. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle; and plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, spell checking, tabbed conversations, and more. Pidgin runs on a number of platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Qtopia (Sharp Zaurus and iPaq).

Glad to see that they made the buddy list uglier and still haven't applied the fix to meanwhile.

What's msnp14?

MSNP14 has been done for a while, according to Trac, and you can build it yourself... Not sure what's keeping it out of the main releases. (Anyone know?)

This is what I keep looking forward to at each release... :-/

This did something weird to my screen name, it replaced it with my friends at random.

Ticket #4062:
* status changed from new to closed.
* resolution set to fixed.
* milestone set to 2.3.1.

(In [b576470ab9bee5e0b1c48de1e78e3e6234254cdb]) Don't update our local display name when we get a response from the server when we store buddies' friendly names on the server. Fixes #4062.

For other people who encounter this issue with Pidgin 2.3.0 I suggest you set an Alias for your account, your own friendly name is *not* being set to random things - this is a purely local display issue.

yeah i just got this weird glitch to but my name was something (adrian) i never even heard of.

i exited the program and reloaded and it worked fine (so far) after that.
