WindowBlinds is the easiest, and safest way to change the complete look and feel of both Windows Vista and XP by applying one of thousands of visual styles that are available. The WindowBlinds 6.1 update is available to current customers as a free update, and users can upgrade either through Stardock Central or the Impulse preview.

The WindowBlinds 6.1 release includes the following updates:
  • Several maintenance and performance tweaks.
  • Option to force start button to the middle of skins.
  • Explorer background feature.
The Explorer Background feature allows users to change the background of their explorer, along with the background color and opacity. There are 30 different background textures to choose from, including a "no texture" option that lets you set just the color and transparency of the Explorer background. WindowBlinds has a free download available for evaluation, and is $19.95 for the full enhanced version. WindowBlinds is also part of the Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancements.

You can get the update either through Stardock Central or Impulse

I personally would use SDC as I find Impulse far too buggy

Blah, still the same old glitches (or are they design flaws?) on Vista. Even if you don't mind them, I don't see any difference from the last version. Meanwhile I patiently await a newer version of IconPackager that they conveniently broke last month and still haven't fixed for x64.

Not to mention the lack of information. They did post that they "support x64" with OD2008.

I have already waited for almost a full year and my subscription is running out soon. I guess I had to throw the subscription into the drain.

I have no reason to turn my $3k machine into a sub 1k machine by letting WindowBlinds slowing down my pc.
#5.1 +Dakkaroth on 11 May 2008 - 08:45
Your $3,000 machine must be a rip off if a small app like WindowBlinds can take it down.

Seriously, it's not that damn intensive at all.

Yeah, I'm sure the 500kb of memory it's using on my XP box is just so taxing on my system.

a waste of money for you but Stardock makes a killing selling useless crap to idiots
#6.2 Island Dog on 11 May 2008 - 11:59
Why is someone an "idiot", if they want to change the looks of their desktop? WindowBlinds goes way beyond anything a uxtheme hack can do.

About the theme in the screenshot... OMG The Humanity!!! LOL
I can count with one hand the themes that really looks good
#8 Panarchy on 11 May 2008 - 09:43
This one has 64-bit support?
#9 Ender2070 on 13 May 2008 - 16:39
it goes way beyond the functions of uxtheme and requires a blacklist of applications known to be incompatible

ender2070, if you had an inkling of what you're talking about, it would give your posts some integrity. since you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about, your posts come across as senseless babbling by a fool. it sad that when a post concerning stardock apps is posted, the trolls feel the need to bash and bitch.
#10.1 Ender2070 on 14 May 2008 - 15:44
if you want i can satisfy your computer noobishness by installing windowsblinds 6.1 again and showing you proof that it uses more than its claimed 500k of ram.
#10.2 Pas on 14 May 2008 - 20:00
there's no computer "noobnishness" on my part. i'm an old hand with them. the fact remains that you're nothing more than a troll when it comes to stardock apps. if you don't like the app, that's fine but what fuels your need to trash something that others find fun and/or useful and you obviously know very little, if anything, about? is it immaturity? there are numnerous apps i see articles posted about here on neowin but not once have i ever posted in the thread to trash the app even when i had used the app and found it lacking in one or more ways. it's time to grow up, ender.

i understand your unfamiliarity with computers. i work in the returns department in a computer store. i have to deal with people all day who don't know what they are talking about (and dont know how to use computers). the fact that your calling me a troll is inaccurate too. this article is the only one where i've talked about the negative aspects of Windowblinds (I wrote a windowblinds review on another site, 4 years ago and nothing has changed).

i dont see how im a troll just because i wrote something bad about a company you like. others have, but i have proof and can back my statements up. I know windowblinds will slow down pc's. Stardock might say it uses 500k of ram, but thats ram.

Has Stardock shown us the average amount of kernel time it uses in say a week of use?

Windowblinds by itself is a very nice application. Problem is, there are far more UGLY themes than there are nice looking ones. Most themes look bloated and make you want to gauge your eye balls out with a fork.
