So what makes this software better than Notepad++?

Nothing really, just another choice

I used to really like ultraedit, but it's a bit "big" to be used as a regular notepad replacement.

now I use editplus, I've tried notepad++ but it's just not as good as editplus, heck I'd use editplus over notepad++ just for the shell integration. but it's also lighter and more fucntional with a better GUI too so. deinately worth it despite N++being free.

Yeah, but $49.95 for a Notepad replacement? I'll pass .

It's actually a really, really, really nice piece of software. It's just not worth the price.

They would be making more money with donations than with that price.

Ultraedit has a huge following, I've been using it for web development for 10 years now. The thing I love most is it's FTP capability, I can open a file on a remote site and edit it as if it was local, then save and it's FTP'ed right back. I use it daily and a have a lifetime upgrade license. Ultraedit and Navicat rule my world.....

I'd have to agree with Chimera. I have been using Ultraedit for about 10 years as well. I use the FTP functionality daily and I like the new option to change work environments. I also have a lifetime upgrade license. This is the best text editor I have ever used. Great for HTML, CSS, and PHP among other languages.
