Pidgin is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client that allows you to use all of your IM accounts at once.

Pidgin is free software. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2. This means you are free to use it and to modify it, but if you distribute your modifications you must distribute the modified source code as well.

+1 ... i totally agree.

cause Pidgin is "THE" instant messaging app out there for all your im needs and overall it's fairly light on resources.

sure, Miranda is 'lighter' on resources but i think it lacks in overall feel vs Pidgin.

overall i like Pidgin better.

p.s. i been using this since it was called Gaim

I just love minimal looking software!

If you *really* love minimal looking programs, try Miranda IM. It's just ~2 MB, portable, and uses around 1 MB RAM when minimized! Was connected to 4 networks with over 250 contacts without any system slowdowns at all, on my 550 Mhz K6-2

Good for Windows, a quick Google tells me what I thought - the (I'm guessing unofficial) Linux port is anything but mature... Pidgin is arguably the best choice under Linux (if you only use MSN, KMess is becoming tempting though).

I would argue differently. Emesene is the best IM app if you only need the MSN network imho.

Tried this for the first time and love it. Prefer it over Digsby.

I absolutely love Pidgin, but the latest GTK+ runtime for Windows has too many issues. I still use the one bundled with Pidgin 2.3.1.

With the new change "Add a preference to choose the minimum size of the text input area in lines" I wonder
if they'll go ahead with the second fork of pidgin. Alot of people were real annoyed when the new text input area
change was implimented.

For some reason my Pidgin does not work anymore after updating to this latest version. When I try to launch it, only its process pidgin.exe will run in the background, but no tray icon or contact list in sight.
Anyone else experience this?

Wish it did P2P file transfers though - WLM kicks it's ass for that (sadly).
