Patchou, the creator and developer behind the famous Messenger Plus! Live has announced the upcoming changes to his Windows Live Messenger add-on. The announcement states that Messenger Plus! Live 4.80 Beta has been released to testers for skin compatibility in Windows Live Messenger 2009, followed up shortly with the public release of 4.80 after 10 days of testing.Patchou also mentioned a new release of his popular software, with improved changes to the interface, and a focus on skins in the next release, Messenger Plus! Live 5.0. Messenger Plus! Live 5.0 will also improve stability between software add-ons such as A-patch, Mess patch, and other messenger add-ons, giving other developers a 3 page document to help improve overall stability in the client itself.
Messenger Plus! Live improves the users experience with other friends that have the software installed, with the ability to send multi-coloured messages, tabbed conversations, custom sounds, user created skins, and lockable messenger, just to name a few.
Windows Live Messenger 2009 was recently announced as the final version (build 1202) in the Windows Live Essentials collection that can be downloaded from download.live.com.

Got my hopes up for nothing

Nope, the site still shows 4.79 to users.
"with the ability to send multi-coloured messages" - just sounds like a waste of time to me, nothing to be gained from this except for kids who want annoying sounds playing all the time and contrasting colours making the conversation impossible to read!

I thought for sure you'd pick out the Canadian spelling of "colour", rather than rag on multi-coloured messaging.
People do still use the software, and has a community around it. Regardless of if people still use it, it is good to report changes and new releases, especially when our very own Sean Bradford sent me email, detailing about Plus! Live 5.0, that no other site has posted about.
Exactly. I prefer Messenger Plus's style of chat logging over the built-in XML based logging. Also of important use to me are custom toast messages and personalized statuses.

Canadian spelling? I presume you mean Queen's English?
and i would use this crap just so i could group the damn freaking windows in a single window with tabs!!
i have no idea in hell why the heck Mshit didn't include a tabbed interface in the WL Messenger... we are in the year 2009 people... wake up!! same goes for the freaking Yahoo team... tab those chat windows god dammit!

Thank you for the info.
And with a traffic light system, Green = Available, Yellow = Away, Red = Busy, it's much easier.
And with Messenger Plus! Live, you can have a custom status any way!
I like the simple .txt logging and fact it has a automatic reply message cause sometimes im away so it sends a msg saying be back in _ hours or w/e withotu changing ur name ,etc, has a couple of other useful featuers as well! but i agree rest of the colored msgs **** is bull
Personally, I think Messenger Plus! Live has some great features. And coupled with A-Patch, it's a great way to add features you do want, and remove stuff you don't.
Everyone's a winner
I'm surprised, I must say...
Quoted from Patchou himself (source):
And most important: the sponsor program is optional. During the installation, Plus! asks the user whether he/she wants to support Plus! by installing the sponsor. There can be no doubt about it!
There is no obligation whatsoever, there isn't even a default selected option: you have to read and click whether you install it or not, you can't skip it.
So no, I'm actually not surprised at all!
I hate when people call this amazing piece of software spyware or something.
This should be the only program in the entire Internet which actually have a great sponsor program.

Nobody has ever called Messenger Plus! spyware.
However, this "great sponsor program" bundled with Plus! was referred to specifically as spyware by Microsoft:
On Wikipedia, the category is Spyware.
Most security sites classify it as Adware, although the description always reads:
Three years ago, my neighbor called me in a panic cuz the laptop she used for her business suddenly slowed down so much that it became unusable. After a QnA session, I found out she had installed Plus! and succumbed to the social engineering aspect of the installer...
...and like 20 years of studies have repeatedly shown, she didn't read the EULA.
Arguing that the victim has to CHOOSE whether or not to install Lop is a dead horse. Nobody who has been compromised by Lop cares.
But hey, I could be way off base here...if it's now a "great sponsor program", then Patchou obviously isn't using Lop any more.
