Apple will open its first retail store at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai while its second store will open a few days later in Saket, Delhi. Tim Cook will inaugurate the stores during his visit.

Apple and Foxconn have successfully lobbied for new labour laws in the Indian state of Karnataka, allowing for two-shift production in the region, amid India's plans to become a manufacturing hub.

Foxconn has reported that its revenue fell by 11.65% compared to the same period last year due to low demand of electronic products worldwide, and also due to manufacturing disruptions in China.

Foxconn is reportedly boosting hiring at its India plant over the next two years to meet iPhone demand, while China continues restrictions as part of its zero-COVID policy in the Zhengzhou district.

Due to strict COVID-19 curbs, iPhone manufacturing is expected to fall 30% in China's Zhengzhou district. Workers were also seen fleeing away from the district due to the restrictions.

The iPhone manufacturing hub of Zhengzhou has been put under a strict lockdown following government orders pertaining to China's zero-COVID policy with only exceptions allowed for COVID testing.

Apple's assembly partner Foxconn will start manufacturing the iPhone 14 at its Chennai, India plant in a move to reduce dependency and diversify supply chain and logistics from China.
