WinInfo Short Takes: Week of April 24th

Paul Thurrott has compiled a round-up of the last weeks interesting news, and I have selected a couple from his article for your enjoyment. He doesn't have a review of build 5365 up yet, but I will be looking out for it to see if some of his concerns have been addressed in the latest build. One thing is for sure, someone sat up and took notice of the dreadful issues with UAP. I have yet to see for myself what the changes are there but initial reports are promising to say the least. Here are the 2 items I selected:

Microsoft Preps Live Drive Service

Microsoft
is working on an Internet-based virtual hard drive hosting service
called Windows Live Drive that will compete with Google's GDrive,
according Microsoft CTO Ray Ozzie. Windows Live Drive will offer users
"huge amounts of online storage" that the company says will be
accessible from anywhere on any device. That's not very hyperbolic
compared to Google's description of GDrive, which promises "infinite
storage and infinite bandwidth." Now that's a promise.

Microsoft to Re-release Buggy Patch

Last
week's buggy Microsoft patch (MS06-015) will be replaced, Microsoft
says. The company plans to ship a new version of the security patch by
next week in order to help customers who have experienced problems (I'm
one of them; see WinInfo Blog above for details). Users with HP scanner
drivers, certain NVIDIA video cards, and even IE users have been having
all kinds of problems since MS06-015 was released, and though Microsoft
initially downplayed the problem, the company has finally owned up to
the fact that it completely botched it on this one. Microsoft says a
new version of the patch should ship Tuesday, April 25 via Windows
Update, Microsoft Update, and Automatic Updates.
