'Halo 5: Guardians' is coming Oct. 27, as revealed in a live-action trailer

Microsoft aired a live-action trailer for "Halo 5: Guardians" during the first commercial break of television"s "The Walking Dead," revealing the game"s release date for the first time: Oct. 27.

The trailer, which has since been published on Microsoft"s Hunt the Truth blog designed to promote the first-person shooter, shows new franchise protagonist Jameson Locke speaking to and about Master Chief, with a gun pointed at the series stalwart"s head. According to information about "Halo 5" released by Microsoft, Locke is "tasked with hunting the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy."

A second live-action trailer, airing in the last 15 minutes of "The Walking Dead," showed the same scene, albeit with the roles of Master Chief and Spartan Locke reversed. In this trailer, Chief points a gun at Locke. The trailers seem to imply that the duo will combat each other in the game, with differing views on a currently unknown catastrophic event leading to their rivalry.

343 Industries, the Microsoft-owned development studio creating the game, is expected to show much more of "Halo 5" at the E3 gaming conference in June. The first in-game look at the game"s single-player campaign will likely be revealed at that time.
