There"s still a lot of people who want to kill and gather loot out there. Just ask the folks at Blizzard Entertainment, who announced today that their fantasy action-RPG sequel Diablo III has sold a whopping 10 million copies since it was launched in May.
Joystiq reports that the sales numbers were revealed by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, as part of the company"s quarterly financial results. He added, "Year-to-date, Diablo III is the top-selling game overall based on enough meta, digital and retail sales in North America and Europe."
So it"s not a shock to learn that after all of those unit sales, Blizzard is working on a commercial expansion pack for the game. Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Morhaime would not give any details, nor a final release date, but did say, "I think the most important thing for us always comes down to the quality of the expansion and the gameplay, so that will be a big factor in terms of driving our schedule."
In related news, Morhaime also said Blizzard will be aiming to release StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the first expansion to their hit RTS game, sometime in the first half of 2013.
