The SOPA/PIPA blackout event on Wednesday is now over. The thousands of web sites that participated in some way in the online protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act bills are now fully working again, although many are still posting messages about their views against the bill.
The web site that shut down that had by far the biggest traffic was the English version of Wikipedia. Today the site posted up an update on their SOPA/PIPA protest, stating that over 162 million people viewed their blackout page on Wednesday. In addition, the tool that was provided on that page for people to look up their elected representatives was used by over eight million people.
Even though Wednesday"s blackout is over, the fight to stop SOPA and PIPA will continue at Wikipedia. The site stated, "Keep calling your representatives! Tell them you believe in a free and open Internet!."
Debate over the SOPA bill in the US House of Representatives has been pushed back until sometime in February but the vote for PIPA is still scheduled to be held on Tuesday, January 24 in the US Senate, despite calls from many US Senators to call off the vote of the bill.
