Much of the Metro interface that dominates Windows 8 has been designed with touch screen devices in mind, particularly tablets. Now a new report claims that various PC makers are going all out to create a ton of Windows 8-based tablets that will have a variety of price points.
Citing unnamed sources, Digitimes claims that as many as 32 tablets running on Windows 8 will be released by the end of 2012. PC makers like HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Toshiba will be among the companies to release the first wave of Windows 8 tablets. The article adds that Lenovo and Acer will release tablets that will be priced between $300 to $1,000.
Some Windows 8 tablets will be sold below the $300 mark, according to the article, in order for those products to compete with the many Android-based tablets.
The article also claims that the x86 version of Windows could come out as early as September, with Windows RT, made to run on ARM-based processors, to be released sometime later. It adds that, according to its sources, Microsoft and Intel want to see the iPad"s current market share for tablets go down to below 50 percent by mid-2013. If the market gets flooded by all sorts of Windows 8 tablets, that will almost certainly happen.
