Three Square Market (32M) has announced a new scheme which will really test employee loyalty; the company will begin a programme on August 1st where it’ll offer to implant an RFID chip into employees’ hands. The upgrade, if you can really call it that, will allow employees to “make purchases in their break room micro market, open doors, login to computers, use the copy machine,” and perform other work-related jobs.
32M CEO Todd Westby said:
“We foresee the use of RFID technology to drive everything from making purchases in our office micro markets, opening doors, use of copy machines, logging into our office computers, unlocking phones, sharing business cards, storing medical/health information, and used as payment at other RFID terminals. Eventually, this technology will become standardised allowing you to use this as your passport, public transit, all purchasing opportunities.”
Anyone interested in being chipped can attend the companies “chip party” on August 1st at the company’s HQ in River Falls, Wisconsin. The market solutions provider is expecting that over 50 employees will undergo the procedure.
The offer is quite interesting, the chip essentially doesn’t do anything that couldn’t be done on an external device such as a mobile phone with NFC; the latter is also much less intrusive than an embedded chip.
