Ever look at one of the latest iPhones and say to yourself if only this was smaller..? Well if you have, your wish might soon become reality, if the latest rumor about Apple is to be believed.
According to GHI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is looking to launch a brand new 4-inch iPhone model early next year. This would be a spiritual successor to the iPhone 5s, designed to be smaller and appeal to a wider market thanks to its relatively lower price.
The new model will reportedly feature the same A9 processor that’s currently in the 6S, identical camera to the one in the 5S, support for Apple Pay through NFC and a metal case with multiple color options. The phone is also supposed to hit markets around the $500 mark for the unlocked version.
While this doesn’t sound like the low-end device that investors have been demanding from Apple for a long while, it might have a place in the market. A high-quality metal iPhone that’s smaller and a bit cheaper than the regular models, but still retains all of their functionality, could be on a lot of people’s wishlists.
That being said, you should take this rumor with a big ol’ bowl of salt. Ming-Chi Kuo has a better track record on Apple rumors than most, but he’s still not always right and this would be a pretty big change for the company. Until we get some official confirmation, or trustworthy leaks from inside the company, treat this as just another rumor.
