4chan founder steps down after 11 years

Christopher Poole, better known by his online alias "moot," started 4chan over a decade ago. After 11 and a half years of running the website on his own, he has announced he is stepping down and walking away from 4chan.

Today I announced my retirement from @4chan, a community I founded at the age of 15 and have served for 11.5 years: https://t.co/jEMsDf5nfz

The news came via 4chan yesterday, more than a decade after Poole created the website at the age of 15. Although Poole is walking away from the site, 4chan will still continue to exist thanks to a group of trusted volunteers.

While Poole has not revealed plans for what he will do next, he did state that he will take some time for himself and author some posts about running 4chan on his personal site. Poole will also hold a live stream Q&A session this Friday on the 4chan YouTube channel.
