The Blackberry Playbook tablet will finally have a version that will connect to 4G cellular networks and it"s coming very soon for Canadians. After many rumors and a photo leak earlier this week, Research in Motion confirmed today it will release a version of the seven inch tablet that will connect to LTE and HSPA+ networks.
The press release states that the 4G Playbook will launch in Canada on August 9th, with Bell, Rogers and TELUS selling the tablet. Pricing was not announced at this time and there"s no information yet on what the wireless providers will charge for the data use.
Besides the 4G network support, the new version of the Playbook will come with 32 GB of storage, front and rear HD video cameras and an HDMI port. The new version will have the same operating system that RIM launched earlier this year for the previous version of the Playbook.
So when will the rest of the world be able to check out this new Playbook? At the moment, RIM is only saying it will be launched in the US and other countries "in the coming months".
In 2011, Sprint canceled plans to launch a version of the Playbook that connected to its WiMax network after sales of the first, WiFi only, version were not as high as expected.
