On March 11, Activision and Infinity Ward jointly made their entry into the battle royale genre through the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone. Available on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 for free, the title garnered over 30 million players in a mere 10-day time period.
Today, Activision has announced that since the game"s launch, over 50,000 player accounts that have been engaged in unfair activity have been permanently banned. The video game publisher has also commented on the measures that have been put in place to enforce its anti-cheating policies, and how it plans to communicate these to users moving ahead.
The following concrete steps to combat cheaters have been outlined:
- Our security teams monitor 24/7 to investigate data and identify potential infractions.
- The teams review all possible cheats and hacks, this includes identifying use of aimbots, wallhacks and more.
- We’re working to improve our in-game system for reporting potential cheating. Plans are underway to streamline the UI for a more seamless reporting experience.
- For all reports that are received in-game, they are both analyzed and filtered based on key data.
- Once investigations are complete, we will continue to work as quickly as possible to ban.
Activision has also acknowledged that discussing its anti-cheating measures isn"t something that it is always willing to be forthright with, despite allocating a lot of resources to these measures. However, moving forward, the firm plans to provide a regular count of further account bans that get issued. This count will presumably be made available on the same blog that the latest news was published on, though it may be showcased and updated daily on a separate page or even in-game.
Update: The title was pointed out as being grammatically incorrect in the comments, and has now been fixed.
