5.5-inch HTC One X10 appears in the flesh

HTC said last week that it is planning to end production of budget Android phones this year - but while the company intends to concentrate on more "premium" devices, it won"t be focusing exclusively on flagships.

Images of the new HTC One X10 have been published on Chinese social media platform Weibo. The device will follow in the footsteps of the One X9, which was unveiled in December 2015 as a budget-friendly mid-range option for those seeking a capable handset with a large display.

The photos suggest that the One X10 will have an aluminum unibody design, as well as capacitive nav buttons, and clearly show a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the device, just below the camera.

Key specs of the X10 haven"t yet been announced, but they"re expected to include an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB of storage, a 5.5-inch LCD with Full HD (1920x1080px) resolution, and a 16.3MP rear camera. Like its predecessor, the X10 is likely to target major emerging markets - such as India and China - rather than seeing a global launch.

HTC revealed in January that it will drastically reduce the size of its smartphone range this year, but after launching two high-end handsets last month, it confirmed that "another flagship" is also on the way with a new processor.

At the lower end of the market, HTC recently announced plans for the international launch of its Desire 650, which features a three-year-old Snapdragon 400 chipset.
