Rumors around Microsoft releasing a smart watch or smart band device have been persistent, and we have been also hearing that the device will launch in the near future. To build on this, it looks like a new wearable device has received the FCC stamp of approval.
The device is described by the documents as being a "mobile wireless device" and it looks like it only has a Bluetooth LE unit to communicate. The device is said to come in small, medium and large sizes and that the radios in all three configurations are the same. Because of the multiple sizes, it does not seem like this would be a mouse or keyboard.
The documents became available today but were filed on 10/13/2014 and unfortunately, Microsoft has asked that the documents remain confidential for a period of time so that they can announce the product and not have it spoiled by being revealed by the FCC.
While we don"t have much to go on, it does look like this is a Microsoft wearable device that was approved today for public distribution, and when you couple that with the rumors that the device will be launched in the next several weeks, this looks like the real thing.
Microsoft"s device is said to work with all platforms and will not be limited to the Windows Phone ecosystem. Further, it will have sensors that track your heart rate too.
Whatever Microsoft is making, they have done a good job at keeping it under wraps as details are relatively thin this close to the rumored launch.
