Microsoft today released a new Office 2016 build for Insiders on the Slow ring. The build number is 8201.xxxx, and the version number is 1705, which indicates that it should be ready to roll out by the end of the month.
There aren"t any new features listed for Word 2016, and this build seems to focus on improvements to Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Here"s what"s new for Excel 2016:
- Enhanced data import functionality Easily import and shape data from various sources. Manage workbook queries and connection with the Queries & Connection side pane, and share queries with others via ODC files.
- Keep the copy Copy your cells and , before you paste, you can still do other tasks like typing or inserting cells.
- New data transformation: Add Column From Examples In the Query Editor, create a new column by providing sample values. As you type, Excel detects the required transformations and shows a preview of the new column.
Here"s what"s coming to Outlook:
- Improved attachment options When attaching files to an email, you can more easily select whether to add it as a cloud file or as a traditional attachment.
- Quickly access the groups you use the most Groups you"re most likely to interact with now appear at the top of the list.
Finally, PowerPoint now offers the ability to add closed captions to videos in presentations.
To get the latest Office Insider builds for Windows desktop, you"ll need to be an Office 365 subscriber. Once you have Office 2016 installed, open any application and go to File -> Account -> Office Insider and choose your ring.
