While this year’s iPhone is not expected to feature many radical changes, except perhaps the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack, next year’s model is a whole different story. Apple is expected to completely revamp the iPhone for its tenth anniversary, with many major changes. And one of those, the removal of the iconic Home button, seems to have been confirmed by another source.
Back in June, the Wall Street Journal was reporting that next year’s iPhone will feature massive changes, including the removal of the Home button. This would in turn make the device look completely smooth. The display would also be revamped with new OLED screens, supplied by LG and Samsung. An iPhone model may even feature a curved display, a rumor corroborated by LG’s recent investments in curved screen tech.
Now Bloomberg is citing its own sources, who seemingly corroborate those earlier reports. According to these sources, Apple is indeed getting ready to ditch the Home button, and possibly rely on capacitive button, as well as its own 3D Touch technology.
Of course, that radical new iPhone is more than a year away at this point. This year’s model, dubbed the iPhone 6SE or iPhone 7, is expected to be revealed next month, and feature much more modest improvements and alterations. The removal of the headphone jack was already mentioned above, but extra RAM and a second rear camera may also show up in this year’s model.
With only a few weeks left until the official reveal, we won’t have to wait too long before we see what Apple has been cooking and how it’ll try to stop its iPhone sales decline.
