In an unprecedented move, Sony has announced that a new Spider-Man game will be coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4. The title is being developed by Insomniac games, the same team who made Sunset Overdrive; an Xbox One exclusive from last year"s E3.
While a gameplay trailer wasn"t shown at E3 this year, the teaser trailer did show off Spider-Man"s combat and web-slinging capabilities. With Spider-Man beating enemies, yanking them around with his web and throwing objects at them, the trailer seemed very reminiscent of 2007"s Spider-Man 3 in terms of movement and attacks.
The PlayStation Blog also states that players will be assuming the role of a seasoned Peter Parker, which hopefully means that we won"t have to go through another origin story for Marvel"s costumed superhero. Insomniac states:
This is a more seasoned Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his absurdly chaotic personal life and career. All while nine million New Yorkers depend on him for their safety… no pressure indeed.
Character, casting and story details haven"t been revealed as of yet, however, we do know that the game will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 soon.
