A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Surface chief Panos Panay will be holding a keynote at Microsoft"s Future Decoded event in London next month. This can only mean one thing: new Surface devices.
Of course, this led many to speculate which new Surfaces will be announced on October 31, and many believed that there would be a new Surface Book. Unfortunately, according to Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, a new Book isn"t coming until early 2018, along with a new Surface Hub.
Indeed, both the Surface Book and Hub are a bit long in the tooth. The Book still uses Intel"s sixth-generation "Skylake" processors, and next month, it will be over two years old. The Surface Hub is built for businesses, but it uses Intel"s fourth-generation "Haswell" chips.
Instead, we"re likely going to see the promised cellular variant of the Surface Pro at the event, which Microsoft announced back in May at an event in Shanghai. We don"t know the specifics of the cellular model, but we"ll learn more next month.
If you"re awaiting a new Surface Book though, it does seem like you"re going to have to hold on a little longer.
