A new Surface Pro X firmware update is rolling out to devices running Insider builds

Some Surface Pro X users running Windows 10 Insider builds have begun receiving a new firmware update. The update reads ‘Microsoft Corporation – System Hardware Update – 7/24/2020’ suggesting that it is a recent one. The Pro X received a firmware update back in June, which brought GPU, audio performance improvements, and more.

Folks over at WindowsCentral report that their device running builds from the Beta channel of the Insider Program received the update. However, the Redmond giant has not provided a changelog yet. The firm is testing the firmware with all Insiders before rolling it out to the public.

Sinclair also posted a list of firmware version revisions being made to the various components of the ARM-based chip, including changes to the GPU, Power Management, Image Signal Processing (ISP) controller, and more. Since these components are integrated into the SoC, updates for the Pro X usually show up as a ‘Hardware Update’, unlike on the Intel-powered Pro series.

There are also updates for the front-facing, infrared, and rear cameras, suggesting that there might be improvements to the recent ‘Eye Contact’ feature that debuted with build 20175 for the Pro X. It is possible that the firm is looking to bring the feature to 20H2 builds too. Regardless, the firmware update should eventually make it to all users after testing, which is also when the company will document all the changes and improvements.
