Nintendo has had a phenomenal couple of years since the release of its Switch console. Prior to its release, the firm was in a dire situation, as the Wii U had flopped, leaving it clawing for market share in the console world. Despite the ups and downs, Nintendo has had wonderful booths at E3, with some focusing on the experience and others more on letting attendees play. This year, it seems as though its booth is a bit of both, part experience, with lots of demo stations to get your hands on.
With Sony exiting E3 2019, the hall space that it used to occupy is noticeably empty. Luckily, Nintendo has expanded its booth this year, perhaps taking some of Sony"s space, offering show-goers more interactive spaces and gaming demo areas. When you first enter, you are greeted with a Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 demo area that features a rock climbing wall and a small track. While this isn"t one of the more popular games announced this year, the company dedicated quite a bit to the experience.
In an adjacent space, Pokémon Sword and Shield are fully represented, with a tournament area that spans as far as the eye can see. Well, maybe not that far, but it"s a good chunk of area, and there were certainly plenty of folks eager to get their hands on the game before its November release date.
The final section is a bit of a mystery. The reason being is that you can"t see inside the area and only know that it houses Luigi"s Mansion 3. Outside, located towards the entrance to the demo enclosure are a pair of Luigis, which are great for taking pictures with. Hopefully, we will get some time to explore the area and update this section.
So as you can see, on the show floor itself, Nintendo has kept things quite simple, offering large demo areas for some of its prime games, while dedicating a smaller section to other titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and more.
While the booth was not as exciting as previous years, Nintendo does have quite a bit on its plate in the next couple of years, with rumors of new consoles, and several high profile titles in the works including the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. With that said, 2020 should be a very good year for gaming.
