Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that the US Department of Defense would be upgrading four million of its Windows PCs, laptops and other mobile devices to the latest version of the OS. Now another major deployment of Windows 10 is revealed to be under way at software consulting firm Accenture.
Accenture is one of Microsoft"s biggest enterprise customers and relies on Windows 10, Office 365, OneDrive and the Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security Suite for productivity. To empower its modern workforce, the company has begun upgrading the devices of over 400,000 employees to Windows 10 and the deployment is expected to complete by next year.
The software consulting firm began the process in late 2015 with compatibility assessment of its business applications and Windows 10. The initial deployment on new PCs and optional manual upgrades were started in April 2016. The second round of deployment, targeting existing Windows 7 PCs, began in August 2016 with an automated In-Place Upgrade Tool.
Accenture is a key enterprise partner for Microsoft and the companies are jointly developing a digital identification system using blockchain technology. The company is also working on a hybrid cloud solution based on Azure and the organization-wide Windows 10 deployment will further increase Accenture"s investment in the Microsoft ecosystem.
Microsoft has backtracked on reaching its one billion users goal for Windows 10, but with an estimated 500 million users, and the ever increasing numbers, the OS is still very successful.
