AccuWeather releases 'Weather for Life' Universal app for Windows 10

During the last two weeks several companies, including Deezer, TuneIn, and the Wall Street Journal have announced plans to bring Universal apps to Windows 10. AccuWeather is the latest to follow suit with today"s release of the company"s Weather for Life Universal app for the operating system.

The new AccuWeather Universal app features a visual redesign, which includes interface elements such as a hamburger button and menu, similar to the default apps included with Windows 10.

As shown in the screenshot above, Weather for Life displays a variety of information within its main view, including current conditions, daily and hourly forecasts, location information, temperatures, weather radar, and a summary of the next day"s projected weather conditions. The new app can also present precipitation levels based on specific locations (e.g., GPS locations or street addresses) via MinuteCast.

The new app also integrates with Cortana, allowing users to check their local forecast simply by speaking "Cortana, what is my AccuWeather forecast?" when the app is active.

Users may also pin multiple Live Tiles for their favorite locations to the Start menu in Windows 10. While this is also possible with the default Weather app included with the operating system, a subtle but welcome difference is that the AccuWeather app can also display current radar conditions for a pinned location in addition to weather forecasts.

Finally, some of the new settings include the ability to change metric units, the default location when opening the app, the ability to turn on animations, Live Tile features, and toggling severe weather alerts.

While the new app is part of the Universal Windows Platform, Windows Central reports that it is not yet available for mobile devices and that it "should arrive in the next few hours." Let us know in the comments if the app is available for you.
